It will be a very long time before I return to a buffet. While I enjoyed the hell out of the food I ate I felt sluggish for the entire afternoon and night, and had no desire to eat dinner.

In an effort to start taming the jungle that is WLF yesterday I made the somewhat tough decision to pull three tomato plants. Truth be told while they still contained some sizable green tomatoes the plants have been ravaged by overgrowth, wind, and rodents. Some of the green tomatoes I plucked last week are starting to ripen in the house, time will tell if the ones I pulled yesterday will so the same.

I harvested some more cucumbers and potatoes yesterday as well. One of the victories that WLF has out there at the moment are the squash forming on the volunteer squash plants, and the tassels that my corn plants are showing. I have hope to eat the squash; I have no aspirations to eat corn, I just plants some on a lark.

I solved today’s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was NORTH.

Wordle in 5 starting with GRAPE. Who knows…

Mickey is back home after and uneventful but hot trip south. His brothers recognized him and it was like old times. Debbie says he’s skinny, so 2 meals a day besides grazing and good hay are called for.

Our social calendar is full for the long weekend. A concert Saturday, a “house concert” Sunday, and a hunt 4th of July party on Monday. And there’s a gravel ride on the 4th I may join. I don’t know who we are anymore.

Where was Betsy heading? She was in someone’s post from the airport.

Wordle in 3 starting with GROUT.

Wordle in 3 starting with STORM. Fun plogging for pints last night from Scofflaw Brewing. Viuori paid for all the beer can chicken burritos (I even brought 4 home for the freezer) and they had an open tab….FREE beer for all. Fun night. I too planted some corn to see how it would do. Starting to get tassels. So far the critters have stayed away from my tomatoes. Or at least I haven’t noticed any missing.

You are lucky about the tomatoes. I done know what’s gone missing, but I found at least twenty which were mostly eaten in the vine. So far I’ve pulled in about fifteen green ones, covered another six on the vines with mesh bags to see if that helps them survive, and have my eyes on the rest. Hope you continue to have luck so you get to eat them.

Last night I learned that my “wife” was the critter who ate my first ripe tomato. She came by that weekend that I was out of town to get something and preemptively ate it to “keep it safe”. She didn’t know it was my first one of the season. Mystery solved though because the wildlife usually leave my grape tomatoes alone.

Buffets are completely wasted on me. I can’t eat more than a plate. Even on Thanksgiving I can only have a little of everything. Now if only I’d fill that plate with vegetables instead of mac ‘n’ cheese! 🙂

I too am looking forward to the long weekend. Working 5 whole days in between time off is so cruel!

    • You are a small person, I won’t expect you to like buffets. Not eating at them helped me lose weight yt, but after striking out on three Mexican restaurants in or near Forest Park I caved and went to the Chinese buffet.

  5. Out getting a morning sweat in WLF. Harvest two yellow squash and a surprise zucchini thus far. Really going to have to get squash/zucchini creative this weekend.

Creating mental plans for reconfiguration and expansion this winter for WLF 2024.

Wordle in 6. It took me 4 tries to get the 1st letter correct.

Long day yesterday, I’m not meant for long distance driving. I had to stop for 2 catnaps on the way home. I’m also not meant for getting up at 4 am. ????

I was very disappointed in Mickey’s condition and somewhat disappointed in his progression in training. Live and learn. I’ll have him back to rights pretty soon.

Reading the gardening woes made me glad I didn’t plant anything this year. Impressed with your perseverance though.

  7. Hmm, wish I had left myself a reminder that I wanted to mow the front lawn this morning. It’s too hot now, and it appears as if rain is in our future during the next handful of days.

what a day so far –
yesterday scraped & caulked around the front door – I’m painting it all today.
Allan replaced the shower head with a cool multihead one – one on a hose to be able to easier get water to the hard spots (for my dad). Allan is now rebuilding the 2 step stairs that go from the porch to the patio – so we can add a handrail. No way to do it by just adding it -= as it is 16′ long boards.
Trying to get any work done with all this chaos is challenging.
