2023-06-30

It was a good ride last night that I subsequently ruined by drinking three beers, eating a ton of roasted peanuts, and then eating some food when I arrived home. Oh well, at least I got some decent exercise.

The end of the first half of 2023 has arrived. I can’t say that I have achieved much, but I’m still fighting.

I solved today’s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was KNELT. OMFG, today’s answer is what was supposed to be my starter word TOMORROW! I was so close to scoring an ace!

In an effort to be accountable, every Friday I will list my decluttering item for each day.
Feel free to add your own list each Friday if you want the accountability.

My Decluttering Week
Saturday: n/a
Sunday: n/a
Monday: book (self help)
Tuesday: book (short stories collection)
Wednesday: book (adult coloring book), colored pencils
Thursday: book (crossword puzzles)
Friday: pint glass x2

  1. Yay me, I have leveled the weeds known as my front “lawn” using my hipster mower this morning.

  2. David says:

You chose a good morning for mowing! Wordle in 5 starting with DRINK. 24 hours from now I’ll be at or near the airport. Belize is tomorrow! Colorado Springs is the week after. Indianapolis/Chicago two weeks after COS.

I practiced snorkeling at the Emory pool last night. I an not a mouth breather but I’m getting the hang of it. More practice tonight. I swam across the deep end of a pool a couple of times last night. I can swim 1/2 mile on my back now but my brain definitely fucked with me in the deep end. It’s all part of the process, it just surprised me.

Kudos on the decluttering documentation. Let me see what I can ditch today.

    • Lurker Tour 2023! Wow

I’ve never snorkeled, so I am unfamiliar with the techniques needed.

Thanks. I’m trying, and by publishing this whenever possible it will help. I realize the first few months are the easiest with the most low-hanging fruit.

    • Barb says:

sounds like an excellent way to spend the summer – traveling!

      • David says:

Yes! Especially since my costs for one of the trips will be covered by my speaking fee. I’m thrilled. I’ve already had weekend trips to North Carolina and Tennessee, and I have the Cades Cove ride in August. This is my kind of summer.

    • Jenka says:

Do you go to WoodPEC or the SAAC pool? Just curious!

  3. Sally says:

You’ll love Belize David. The reefs are amazing. And of course who doesn’t love Colorado. I ran this morning even though the smoke haze was present. I had to do something. This week I have decluttered books, lots of papers including old recipes I have been hoarding that I never use, vases, shoes, clothes, food containers, and race awards. Also threw away a lot of stuff that was on my deck ie pots etc. We’ll see what next week brings. Wordle in 4 starting with DELAY. Have a great week-end. I’ll be working on Saturday. Hashing on Sunday.

    • David says:

Thanks, Sally! I’m very much looking forward to it. Colorado is another work trip and I won’t have a car because I’m one of the sponsors for a conference, but I’m sure I’ll find fun stuff to do in Colorado Springs. The conference includes a visit to the US Olympics museum, which is not a place I’d ever go on my own, but I’ll check it out with an open mind.

Great work on the decluttering! The more you can move out, the more you want to move out.

      • Barb says:

I’m way behind- but the Olympic Training center is cool, but if you go mid day, you won’t see any training, (I think most train earlier int eh mornings)
Of course – if you can get up to the top of Pike’s Pak- that’s always a cool thing to do

  4. steve says:

Wordle in 4 starting with SAINT. Could have been in 3. Sorry for your near ace, Paulie.

Lurker Tour ’23 sounds like a blast. I have my C card for diving (though I could stand a refresher) and I’d love to go to Belize- I hear it’s amazing.

Met with the accountant about forming an LLC for Debbie’s “bidness”. Seems straightforward enough.

In going to see him and then to the grocery, the smoke was awful! Even this morning, the smell is strong. I don’t think it was quite this bad in Richmond and that’s 600 miles north. 45 minutes of intervals last night- there was no way I was going to ride outside.

I need to get out and cut the grass as well, but it will wait until after work. No hipster mower for me.

    -FP

    • David says:

Forming an LLC is no big deal for sure. It’s definitely a good idea to separate business from personal when it comes to money. Personally I have an S corp for my main business and I have a C corp for a second business that I’m getting off of the ground in slow motion.

      • As long as you don’t screw up the way I must have. I am still trying to get the government to stop nagging me about paperwork they believe I should be filing. Settling this matter is high on my To Do list for July.

  5. Bob says:

Survived the first week in Orlando, not too much action though since me and my brother both had to work all week. The real party starts tomorrow as the rest of the family shows up. Lots of boating and beaching on the schedule for next week. It’s so fucking hot though I may not be able to get a ride in, I went out the other day to do some work on my bike and was dripping wet within 30 minutes and I was just tinkering not riding.

I need to get my father hooked on the decluttering bug, I looked in his garage and holy hoarder situation! He has parts from a jeep that was stolen like 10 years ago. I want to show up with a dumpster and just start loading it up. I may need to work that in to the schedule next week.

Hope all is well in the ATL and the smoke is not too thick.

  6. Barb says:

last day in Iowa – we will take off late afternoon & start heading south.

Yesterday Allan got the majority of the 2 new steps with a handrail done for Mom (& Dad) – but trying to drill into the cement to get the 2nd cement anchor in proved too much at the end of an exhausting day. And it was dinner time – he will get back to it later this morning. My cousin stopped by to say hi, he has a truck, so it made the trip to Home Depot much easier with his truck.
We did get the front door outside area painted, a new shower head with a head on a hose installed, and various other little things done.

Luckily work hasn’t been super busy most of the week, so I’ve been able to get some things done

  7. I might be the only one in this crowd for whom anything in Central and South America has no lure. Oh well, it takes all types.

  8. Jenka says:

    I can’t believe I worked 5 days IN A ROW! It’s so harsh! Luckily, now I have a four day weekend. 🙂

I’ve been off the sauce since last weekend because BA was a lot, so I am looking forward to a glass of wine tonight. I think this weekend we’re going to a Braves game and also to see the new Indiana Jones movie.

Safe driving Barb (I mean Allan)! Have a wonderful time in Belize, David!

    • steve says:

I’m waiting to see what the reviews are for the new IJ movie. I think Harrison Ford is a great actor and enjoy almost everything he does, but it’s still a sequel, so hard to keep up the franchise.z

And safe travels Barb.. glad you got to spend some quality time with the fam.

      • Jenka says:

I’m a huge IJ fan so I’m looking forward to it. Plus Finn won’t shut up about it. Plus: AIR CONDITIONING.

    • Barb says:

you know it – (Allan driving) he’s a horrible passenger.
Since we are breaking up the drive, I’m pretty positive he will do all the driving.

    • David says:

Thanks, Jenka! It’s going to be great. The trip was momentarily in peril this week due to our ringleader’s 94 year old mother having surgery to repair a fractured spine this week, but things are settled and shifted enough that we’re all systems go. This will be my first time having a vacation with 7 non-family members, there’s 10 of us total.

  9. Debbie says:

Wordle in 3 starting with STEAD. Should’ve been 2.

Hot Pursuit Farm LLC coming soon! Fortunately all my business related expenses YTD will be deductible. We had fun thinking about some other deductible expenses. Traveling to Ireland to try some horses is my fave.

Safe travels home Barb. Apparently the holiday travel madness started yesterday. Hope it doesn’t impact your drive too much.

I’ve got to get back to decluttering. The kitchen and dining room have remained pristine so now I’ve just got to add about area to the success stories.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

  10. Barb says:

    Wordle in 3, using Paulie’s start work – a good 2nd word & then a great3rd guess.

Mini – should have been less than a minute – but as usual – I had 1 letter wrong & had to figure out what the hell I did. (I had all the answers right , jsut my spelling……)

  11. David says:

It feels weird to me that the City of Brookhaven wants to annex Toco Hills. I guess their existing city limits are farther reaching than I would have thought.

    • steve says:

How the F does Brookhaven think Toco Hills is part of their domain? I think the city of Decatur might object a bit.

    • Funny, I was just driving up Briarcliff and saw a Brookhaven annexation notice around LaVista and thought “Holy shit, how much land is Brookhaven going to claim?”

  12. David says:

Uber is clearly activating surge pricing for this weekend. If I took Uber to the MLK station right now, $9.95. Tomorrow morning at 6:00 AM? $46.80. Um, I’ll drop my bags off at MLK with my kids, drive my car back home and speed walk the mile back for free, thank you. Fuckers. I’ll see what their shenanigans look like in the morning.

    • Bob says:

$47 to go a mile? Hell even $10 to go a mile is crazy expensive.

      • David says:

I hear ya. I’ll pay $10 to move 3 of us and our bags a mile, but not much more than that.

    • Jenka says:

      What. The. Fuck?! That’s ridiculous.

      • David says:

Yes, I’m glad that I checked in advance. They could have had me in a corner tomorrow morning.

    • Jenka says:

Did you try Lyft? They may or may not be cheaper. I won’t use Uber anymore.

      • David says:

Oh good call, Lyft is charging $14.92 to preschedule a ride tomorrow. That’s way better than $50 to Uber. I get a $10 Uber credit each month on my AmEx Gold card, but that doesn’t do much against price gouging. Thank you for the great suggestion, Jenka. Tunnel vision is brutal.

  13. Steve says:

It’s about to get real down here. Real stormy and real windy.
