I had another annoying baking fail yesterday, this time because I wasn’t thinking straight. I tried to make a double batch of Jiffy cornbread, with added WLF jalapeños, but neither accounted for the extra batter in the baking time nor tested the center with a skewer because it “looked done”. I pulled the 8″x8″ pan from the air fryer and when I went to tip the loaf out to cool on a rack it split apart because it was still completely raw in the middle. So goddamn stupid of me, and frustrating as hell. Nearly the entirety of the loaf went into compost.

I also failed at convincing myself that I shouldn’t ride in this heat. I have not had a good week and wasn’t up for compounding this by suffering in the heat.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

I solved today’s Wordle in five attempts; my starter today was RUMBA.

Good morning from Ft Gordon. The sun is just coming up. First race off at 0730.

Hot yesterday and hotter today, if thats possible.

    Wordle in 3!

Good morning from Marietta. Hot, steamy, humid. Went for a quick run. Still sweating. Wordle in 4 starting with CHASE. I just couldn’t see the word..should have been 2. One mistake in Connections. 2nd place in Trivia last night. Missed two out of the 10 in the final bonus question which was “what were the top 10 most populated cities in the US in 1900”. Work event tonight involving eating and drinking. Dirtbag potluck tomorrow night. Haven’t decided on my plans for Sunday. May hash or I may go to Jack’s River.

Declutter: thermos, 3 metal cups, wine cup, softball cleats, bike cleats, cookie sheet, bread pan, fish grill, another cutting board, and shredded medical files.

Hey Paulie, I hope you have a better week-end! PS: I would have put the bread back in the oven or fryer. It might not have looked pretty but it probably would have tasted yummy. It’s okay to fall about sometimes. S’mores fall apart, and we still love them.

    • Good on ya!

No saving the cornbread as it was so raw that it spilled all over the pan and counter. I ate the parts that were fully cooked with no wetness, and gave up on the rest. Only saving grace is that it will someday become soil for WLF.

Hoping my body’s current affliction abates and allows me to have a better weekend. If not I am going to schedule a dermatologist appointment for after my trip to Raleigh Labor Day weekend.

Went with Annette to a champagne tasting at Total Wine Perimeter last night – it was interesting. The guy that taught the “class” really knew his stuff. They were all pretty pricy – at least$50/bottle. I’m not a huge champagne fan, but it was fun. I guess if you join their rewards program you get 1st chance at these tastings (& they are free as long as you spend enough – have enough points).

Next month is Napa Valley wines at the Cumberland store, and Willamette Valley wines at the Perimeter store. I think you can just pay $20 to do these tastings too, but I think it sells out quickly. Now when I rarely go to Total Wine, I’ll use Annette’s phone# to be sure she gets her points.

Happy Friday to you all! Of course the weekend of the Summer Shade Festival is going to be 100 degrees. Just because it’s the Summer Shade Festival. It could be 50 degrees and raining the week before, but the weekend of the SSF is always 100 degrees and 95% humidity. Just to make everyone as uncomfortable as possible while they hang out outside for 5 hours. No, thank you.

  5. Jenka says:

Two mistakes in Connections. It wasn’t that hard, I’m just dumb.

  6. David says:

Total Connections fail. Fuck that game.

CLERK was a strategic choice for today. I’m letting my matches marinate.

If anyone is hitting Summer Shade this weekend, holler at me. I’m happy to offer respite from the heat.

Much needed massage today. I also asked Jenn to pull a tarot card for me. The card was eerily perfect given how amazing this year continues to be for me.

One of my author traditions is to have a writing/drinking lunch at the Flatiron once for each book. Today is the day. I’m in the author review stage of book 6 and a little beer helps the editorial comments go down more easily. 😉

    • David says:

And kudos Paulie and Sally on the decluttering.

    • David says:

No Flat Iron today, I started out at Joe’s for caffiene, and have stayed because they are slaying the music today. Lots of early 60s stuff that is making for an excellent vibe.

  7. Bob says:

Wordle fail, I think I’m too dumb to play that game 🙁

I’m on the project from hell at work and everything is on fire and just sucks. I hate my job right now, I think I need a change. Maybe I’ll do a weekend alone in the mountains like David did and reset some goals.

Laura is going on a neighborhood women’s trip for the next 5 days. Let’s see how much trouble Travis and I can get in to 🙂
Atlanta United game Saturday night and Travis has been bugging me to play golf so dusting off the clubs and playing Sunday. First available tee time was 2PM though, that would have been insane. Thankfully an 8AM spot came available.

    • David says:

Bob, I highly recommend a weekend in the mountains alone. Here’s the place that I used, I would happily go back again: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/27833013

Good luck finding your center. It’s no bueno feeling out of control like that. I’ve spent way too much of my life in that space.

    • Barb says:

where are you playing golf? My clubs are sooooo dusty.

      • My clubs are in the place I put them twenty years ago. I have considered decluttering them in the near future.

        • David says:

I would say that is some serious low-hanging decluttering fruit. I stick to putt-putt these days if I get the urge to move a ball around on a green surface. Golf was always too expensive and too time consuming for me.

      • Bob says:

Going to a place called River Pines, it is just down the street.
I do really enjoy golf but it is very expensive and time consuming. However, spending some quality time with Travis will make this outing worth it.

We should go play a round Barb, it would be fun.

        • Barb says:

River Pines – I remember (barely) that course. I played so much golf in the 90s before I met Allan.

if you ever want to come to Marietta, there’s 2 executive courses next door to each other. I love the par 60 or 62 courses – I feel better about my score that way. 😉

          • Bob says:

Yeah lets get something on the schedule. I have played a ton of rounds on those courses. I remember them being fun.

    • Barb says:

and it took me all 6 on Wordle – I could not figure it out. some days………

  8. Jenka says:

Friends, I just scored 9 out of 11 on the weekly NYTimes news quiz. Between that, Wordle, and Connections, today was not my sharpest outing. Blerg!
