Brrrr. Oh, hello November.

I was proud yesterday to force John / Ham with Cam out of the shadows by putting up his bat signal by mentioning Coca-Cola. 😀

I have a secret. I don’t like Halloween. It’s not because I have bad memories of it as a child, though I was once chased by a “bigger” kid when I was twelve and had my hoodie filled with shaving cream, it’s because I don’t like dressing up in costume. I’ve become less willing to participate because I have gained weight again since the departure of my partner in crime who liked dressing up in costume. Halloween is the one night in the year that I turn off my outdoor lights.

Yesterday I puttered around WLF, took a nap, started looking into some things, cleaned part of the basement (after finding some rotting produce in storage), and then shut down for the evening. I was somewhat proud of myself for decline to drive up to Sandy Springs to drink with my buddies, who, went to visit one of our favorite bar tenders; by doing so I saved money and calories.

Today I need to figure out what I am going to cook for dinner with Betsy tonight. It would be advantageous if I could use some of the produce, perhaps peppers or squash, harvested from WLF.

Wordle: four, my starter was WRECK
Connections: perfect, Yellow > Green > Purple > Blue

I’ve never liked dressing up either. My current theory is if you’re not comfortable in your own skin then trying to be someone or something either feels excruciating or like a moon shot. Who knows, I may make peace with yet.

I could have handed out candy from 5:00 to 9:00 but opted for 6:30 to 8:15, which was plenty long enough for me. I then walked to the other side of the neighborhood to continue a tradition of visiting a couple different friends on Halloween.

There will music in the air tonight at Variety Playhouse. I need to decide if I want to get there on foot.

Wordle in 3, two misses on Conniptions.

    • Enjoy your show tonight. I will be cool at that time, so walking could be an option. And, you don’t have to rush to get there early in order to me an anal person such as myself, 😀 I considered going to the show, but it’s a Betsy night, and I don’t know their music all that much.

Last night would have been a good one to break out my Olaf costume. It’s funny how warm one can be dressed in a snowman outfit.

Wordle in 6 starting with CHILD. Too many options with the last 3 letters that I managed to get on my second guess. Only one mistake in Connections. Yellow, Purple, Green, Blue.
I don’t mind Halloween but it’s not the same as it used to be with all the trunk and treats and kids getting candy too easily. I opted to walk down to my friend Frank’s house to sit around the fire pit and have a few brews with Allan and Barb. Did not see many kids walking the hood. I don’t mind dressing up. It can be fun.
    Niece and children arrive today.
I’m working a shoe event at The Atlanta Speech School this morning with all newbies…I am not happy about that.

  3. Baked a breakfast casserole this morning. Not only will it taste delicious, but it has also adds some much needed heat to the house.

    • Will roast a squash later today, and as of now I am considering making a pasta bake for dinner.

      • Sally says:

        It all sounds very good!

        • The breakfast casserole is delicious. And, because I had them I added two jalapeños and a small green bell pepper to it today.

Looking forward to roasting the squash, to be used in a future meal, and the pasta bake for tonight.

          • Barb says:

I think I may be making some sort of pasta bake tonight for dinner too.
A couple younger friends (1 who I am grooming to take care of me in my old age) are coming over for dinner.

          • Have you chosen Libby as your heir apparent? Lol

Another candidate is to make a Hungarian Goulash. It’s essentially the same as the pasta bake I am considering.

          • Barb says:

no – not Libby. She’s gonna have her hands full with her momma.
Its a parrothead friends’ kid that I’ve known her whole life – she calls us Aunt & Uncle already.

  4. Did I just realize that I once again forget that October was Atlanta Celebrates Photography month?

Wordle in 4 and that was only because of throwing something up to see what sticks.

A lazy evening. Pizza made, Jeopardy! watched. Man cave cleaned. Bought and installed new floor mats for “my truck”. Not that I’m driving it much.

There may be a trip to scenic Newark soon. My brother Sam tried to throw me under the bus yesterday, but we’re trying another method of solving the problem.

Sal, I need to make an appointment to come see you for some shoes. I want to start running, but I’m in desperate need for new kicks.

  6. Need to start keeping an eye out for cheap/discarded pumpkins to toss into my compost.

  8. Jenka says:

I despise Halloween. Despise it. I HATE for people to come to my door. HATE IT. I think dressing up in costumes is dumb. I also don’t really like kids. Or being scared. So pretty much all of it.

My one-block street has a lot of kids and the parents are mostly 40-somethings so we gather at one end of the street and parade down the block, the kids run up to the houses and get candy, one neighbor had a jug of some cocktail he was handing out to the parents. It was pretty fun and, most importantly, short. After that I put the bowl on the porch and made arroz con pollo for dinner. Next year when we don’t have Finn we will turn off all the lights and go out to dinner.

    • Barb says:

I don’t despise Halloween, but I’m just not usually in the mood to come up with a costume – so I’d rather skip that part of the program.
I actually don’t like wearing the same costume twice, but since I don’t want to have to come up with new ideas, we do have a bin of costumes that I can use for different groups of people.

      • Jenka says:

It’s also gotten earlier. It used to be they wouldn’t start until dark, and now it’s like 5:30 and goes until 9:30. This year Kevin made an ingenious sign that said “Out of Candy” and bungee-corded it across the porch so that people could not get past the barrier. Every other year after we turn off the porch light we still get obnoxious knocks at 9:00 PM! I married a genius.

        • David says:

I have a porch gate that I close. I could have handed candy out from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM but that’s too damn long for me. Last night’s 6:30 to 8:15 was longer than my usual stints. I handed out two giant bowls and then I was done.

  9. Barb says:

2 days in a row – no mistakes on Connections –
    Green – Blue – Yellow – Purple

all good quesses on Wordle – but still took me 6

Mini – 1:23- I wasn’t really trying to be fast today

  10. Not getting comment emails again, this is why I am playing catch up

  11. Jenka says:

I managed to eek out Conniptions (HT to David) with one mistake left on the table. Green>yellow>blue>purple.

  12. steve says:

    Conniptions! Perfect.

  13. Went on a grocery run, in part to buy things for tonight, and in part to buy supplies for the weekend of camping. It’s going to be a small group this year.

I decided to give the M6’s battery some charging by taking the long way to Aldi, I20 -> I285 -> Moreland Av. I don’t know why I was surprised that the TPMS alarm fired. Ugh.

Had to pop into Kroger, and dangen I just realized that I forgot to get the one thing I went there to buy, and was spotted by Jackass. Of course he called me out for wearing my Black Sheep Hash hoodie.

    • Kroger has pumpkins for $1/ea, but they were all too small to make it financially worthwhile. I will keep my eyes open for people putting theirs onto the curb.

      • Barb says:

I remember back in the day – a church up the road just gave away any extra pumpkins – I actually cleaned one out to roast some pumpkin seeds. (it wasn’t worth all the effort – I don’t like the seeds that much – so I never did it again)

      • Sally says:

Late to the game here. Just got caught up. I make a really nice pumpkin soup with my pumpkins! :).

  14. Getting ready to roast a Georgia Candy Roaster Squash. Not sure how I will use it once roasted, but I will figure something out.
