More Florida. I think when I enter the next chapter of my life I am going start planning for the time when I am alone and incapable of caring for myself.

I spent most of yesterday puttering around the house, it was too cold for me to do much else. The day seemed to fly by. As the day wore on my back pain returned; if it’s not one thing, it’s another. Regardless, I finally made it out of the house for a short walk late in the afternoon. My journey took me to the East Atlanta Farmers Market, where I saw the most beautiful young woman a stand selling apples, seeking one of my favorite varieties, ‘Mutzu’ (which is better known as ‘Mutsu’?). Since I was neither carrying cash nor credit card on my walk I innocently asked “Do you accept ApplePay?”. “What sort of apple seller doesn’t?” the vendor replied and I nearly laughed aloud. I purchased a small bag of very large apples and headed home. It was the early 1990s, when I lived in Alabama, when I purchased and ate my first ‘Mutzu’ from an apple orchard.

I tried to watch the NFL games last night, but between the commercials and all of the penalties, it was unwatchable.

Off to camp for the weekend. I did no preparation yesterday, so I have to get all of my gear gathered this morning. Thankfully the state park to which I am headed is only about an hour away. But, it is also one where AT&T has shitty coverage so I will have to make trips to find coverage in order to keep my Wordle and Duolingo streaks alive.

Wordle: five, my starter was CLAIM
Connections: perfect, Yellow > Blue > Purple > Green

  1. Don’t forget that our American clocks fall back an hour this weekend.

I am looking forward to gaining an hour but not to the early darkness. Wordle in 4 starting with GUIDE. 2 mistakes in Connections. Yellow, Green, Purple, Blue. Busy day yesterday with the Arizona kids 11, 9 and 5 raking and playing in my leaves. Billy said it was always his dream. lol Then, I made them hike to the top of Kennesaw Mountain where they said how can an Old Lady hike faster than a young child. Later we drove to Rockmart to visit with mom, their great grandmother. Long day. They are on their way to Florida this morning where they will be surprised with a trip to the Magic Kingdom!

I am working both Saturday and Sunday this week-end. I do plan to go to Barb and Allans for the Kat/Mango send off Saturday evening.

Have fun this week-end Wee. What park are you going to?

It’s fuck all y’all with regard to the games. Wordle in 6, and I scraped one layer off Conniptions. Stupid fucking waste of time.

TGIFB. I love “fall back”, something about the shift back vibes really well with me. That first Sunday is always deliciously long.

Wordle in 3 and could have been 2! I thought of the word, but played a more common one, as I thought the answer was a bit obscure. Connections perfect.

A long and occasionally frustrating day yesterday. Having issues in Newark that we could easily diagnose if it were Atlanta, but no. The Miami vault project is moving forward, which means some of my equipment will be in use and not just on a drawing somewhere which is satisfying. It’s only a temporary guard post to verify the workers, but still.

A half hour on the trainer on a real climb loaded into Zwift, While normal Zwift climbs have scenery and whatnot, this one only has the data and map of where you are on it. Odd.

So Paulie, did you actually see “the most beautiful young woman” and not want to talk about it, or what?

  6. Trying to pack for the weekend. It happens every year, but I can’t decide what clothing I will need to combat this cold weather.

Also really wish that my back didn’t hurt on the day on which I am going to sleep on the ground.

  7. Bob says:

Definitely make plans for when you hit that age, coming in at the 11th hour and trying to figure shit out is not fun.

First cold ride last night. It’s funny, I have been riding for over 20 years but every fall I forget how to dress and either over or under do it so I boil or freeze. I was burning up last night but we had a good ramble.

    • Jenka says:

Even if you DO have someone to take care of you when you get older, you still need to make plans for when you’re incapable of taking care of yourself. Everyone needs to do this. Everyone. Get a reservation in a good retirement home now so you can move in when it’s time. The reality is that someone is eventually going to have to wipe poop off your ass and it will be a much better experience if you plan for it.

    • steve says:

I don’t know that you forget, it’s just your body hasn’t adjusted to the cold and in the early cold season, you overdress. Our old rule of thumb was to dress for 20 degrees warmer than the air temp- so riding at 40 dress for standing still at 60.

I don’t care whether it’s spring ahead or fall back, I just wish we would stop all this nonsense. The sun rises and sets when it rises and sets. OMG, I am so salty this morning! 🙂

Very glad it’s Friday. We have tickets to the Horizon Theater tonight for a play with a very long name. It was the only night during the play’s run when we were free, but now I am so tired I’m not sure I want to be out until like 10:30 tonight. So late!

  9. steve says:

As I recall, kids coming home on busses in the pitch dark in the afternoon was a problem. Not so much in the South, but the farther North you go, the less daylight.

  10. Waiting on the mail delivery or 1pm, whichever comes first, before I depart.

    • Barb says:

our mailman comes around 5pm or later these days – but since we only get junk mail – I don’t worry too much about it. I get the mail maybe twice a week out of our mailbox.
