Considering the intent of this trip to Florida was to visit my mother, and not start the cleanup after her death, things went well this weekend. The focus was collecting all of the paperwork containing personal identification out of the house, and there was a ton of it. The woman kept way too much. We canceled cable, phone, and fall detection services, sending back the cable boxes as well. This week I will also send back the fall detection hardware. We’re far from done, but there was far more than we three could accomplish in a long weekend. I’ll be back ITP this week and attempt to continue the work from afar.

Wordle: five, my starter was SHORE
Connections: perfect, Yellow > Blue > Green> Purple

  1. Whoops, forgot to post.

Wordle in 5 and perfect Connections.

Good to know it’s going as well as it can.

Saturday was opening hunt- in the rain! Glad to sit at home while Debbie, for some reason, decided to ride on the follow wagon. The original plan was for her to ride and I would join afterwards for breakfast. As Phinney is broken, plan B was launched. Many offers of horses to ride and sympathies expressed for Phinney.

I was all ready to fire up the hot wire fence for the dogs yesterday- put connectors around on the fence posts, installed the grounding rod, buried the cable to pass the charge under the gate and went to check if the charger was working. NOPE! Back to Tractor Supply for a new charger and then we’ll light these little dogs UP!

And I sorta ran/walked 2 miles yesterday! My legs don’t hurt too much today.

At the San Jose (CA) airport for a 6:30am flight.
No lines at all, got here too early in retrospect.
They are begging people to gate check their bars.
    We checked everything earlier.
Great trip out here – will definitely come back.
I’m sure there is so much more to do & see, but we packed in a lot of stuff.

Went to a redwood forest yesterday- no cell signal in the area, so the few seconds I had a connection for GPS took us on the craziest roads to get back to the highway San Jose. Allan will not forget those curvy roads for a long time.
I need to call Avis to let them know to check the brakes, there’s no way to make comments on the app.

    Wordle- 5
Yellow- blue- green- purple (almost a fail)

    • steve says:

The pics were wonderful. Looked like a great time.

    • Jenka says:

Wordle in 4 and perfect Connections: green – yellow – blue – purple.

Looks like we all got purple last, but the librarian in me thinks a lot about the green category!

  5. Jenka says:

So are you going to hire someone to clean out the house? It’s best to contact a realtor first, they will have connections with people who can do many aspects of closing up an aged parent’s house. Plus they are local, which helps when you’re dealing with it from a distance. Our realtor was invaluable when we were dealing with Kevin’s parents house in upstate NY.

My weekend was glorious. Saturday we went to Patria Cocina before our mani-pedi appts at Lark & Sparrow. After the appts we went home and watched football and ordered garbage food. Sunday we slept in and then went to Moe’s & Joe’s for lunch, it wasn’t crowded at all because the Falcons didn’t play until 4:00. Then home to watch football until bedtime. Very relaxing!

Amazingly my boomer boss is on vacation this whole week. This means that I am working from home today! Woo hoo!

Barb, the pics from your Cali trip are amazing!

    • We are eventually get someone in to appraise my mother’s possessions in order to sell them. From there it’s house clean up and sell.

      • Bob says:

I think estate sale companies will take care of that for you. They will sell what they can and remove the rest and clean up when they are done. I’m sure a local realtor will have contacts.

I’m back among the living after my week of COVID. It was both miserable and minor in the overall scheme of things, particularly as COVID goes. It was mostly like a bad cold. I still have some crud lingering, but that’s to be expected.

Wordle in 4, clean slate with no misses on Connections. Safe travels, Barb. It’s always a *long* travel day coming back from the west coast.

Good luck with your estate cleanout process, Paulie.

    • Thanks. Glad to hear you are doing well.

      • steve says:

Sorry you had the cooties and glad it wasn’t any worse!

        • David says:

Thanks, Steve! My number had to come up eventually, I did know that. I knew an anti-vaxxer who ended up in ICU for 60 days during the pandemic, so yeah, my stuff was truly nothing. He survived, albeit by the literal skin of his teeth.

      • David says:

Thanks, Paulie! I haven’t gotten sick in a long time and I did not like it one bit. Not that any one does, it’s just that breaking a long wellness streak rubs a little salt in the wound.

  7. Bob says:

Wordle in 5 starting with REACT. Perfect connections, easy one that my lizard brain was able to figure out.
Dining room demo successful on Saturday, the crew that showed up this morning asked if I wanted a job doing demo since I cleaned it up so well 🙂
I have 2 crews on site today, one crew to hang drywall and install trim and the painter is back. Both will be here most of the week.
Family comes in to town on Saturday so it’s coming down to the wire to have it complete on time.

  8. Barb says:

On the plane- 1st class seats recline way too far, the guy in front of me doesn’t need to be so far back, he isn’t sleeping.
    I know, 1st world problem.
Breakfast was actually really good, I like this 1st class stuff. Too bad I’ll never travel enough to get this platinum medallion status again.

  9. David says:

In other news I booked two nights in the Grand Canyon Village at the end of November. That’ll give me two sunrises and some day hiking. I will restrain myself when heading into the canyon, and will turn around and finish my hike along the rim to save me from myself. This is a bolt-on to a two night business trip to Tucson. I’ve wanted to return to the Grand Canyon ever since I had a short hike back in 1992. This isn’t my “wife’s” kind of trip, and so it never happened. I am excited!

    • steve says:

      You realize that’s a 6 hour drive?

      • Barb says:

Should go the opposite way down to Bisbee from Tucson. I so want to go back to that town.
But- that being said – Grand Canyon is awesome!
Sally can give you all the scoop, she’s fine the rim to rim thing more than once.

        • David says:

It’s an excess of riches for sure with regard to things to see and go and do in Arizona. I have my eye on the prize of finally returning to the Grand Canyon. While in Tuscon I’ll do some hiking in the Saguaro National Park as well.

      • David says:

Yep, I’m aware. I’m hedging things a little by flying Phoenix. I’ll land in Phoenix at 10:30 AM Mountain time the first day, which means a 4 or 5 hour ride to the Grand Canyon. I’ll then have a full day, and then I’ll make my way south the day after that in time for a work event that evening. I have a plan.

  10. Bro and SIL are on the road. I really need to get my feet sorted out so that I can walk/hike without pain again. Eating way too much, can’t blame my mother this time…

    • Barb says:

Your family likes to drive too much. 😉
I’m guessing they are taking a some things back to NY?

      • Yeah, they claimed some stuff from the house and are taking it back. I’m taking a few things too, but not much since I’m trying to declutter.

        • steve says:

Maybe this isn’t the time to be making decluttering decisions? Take things with you and then after a bit of time has passed, then if you still want to declutter…..

(Somewhere in the tossed Christmas decorations from M&D’s are 4 little candle holders- the letters N O E L. My brother and I used to torture my mom when she set them on the mantle, as Noel spelled backwards is Leon! Stupid $hit like that you may want someday.)

          • Perhaps. Some of the decisions have already been made, however.

Can’t believe the liquor store denied my request for boxes. Here I was thinking that I was doing them a favor… The boxes are needed to transport items to Goodwill (or equivalent).

  11. Tough sports weekend for me

    Werder Bremen: tied
    Gators: lost
    United: lost, season is over
    Jets: lost

  12. Finally made it to deBine Brewing in Palm Harbor. Have ridden my bike past it many times, but never had the opportunity to stop previously.

  13. Barb says:

Home sweet home. Allan is immediately blowing leaves……
