Apple and I are definitely not seeing eye-to-eye on the future of software. They have changed/broken so many things with their latest operating systems releases that affect the convenient workflows that used to work so well. #sad

Slow weekend planned as we continue to speed toward Christmas and the end of 2023.

Wordle: five, my starter was BLASE
Connections: perfect, Yellow > Green > Purple > Blue

  1. Per this this Velo (News) article it appears that the cycling content from GCN+ will be moving to (HBO) Max next year, and will cost significantly more than it did on GCN+.

Looks as if I won’t be watching cycling next year because I am not going to sign up for HBO.

    Wordle: 4, Connections: 0 mistakes

One of my multiple income streams involves creating recordings of of live classes that I do and packaging it for on-demand consumption. This requires video editing, writing review and final exam questions, a glossary, and creating handouts. I actually shipped the Power BI class that I taught on Wednesday to training providers yesterday. That is warp speed and the fastest that I’ve ever gotten one of these done. My previous perfectionist tendencies have caused me to leave so much money on the table.

    • Steve says:

Good work on the turn around! I keep hearing about Power BI, but haven’t figured it out yet. We are apparently using it in some capacity.

      • David says:

Thanks, Steve. I’m working getting out of my own way, so this course was a proof of concept. There’s a lot of YouTube videos on Power BI out there. The best way to learn it is definitely to have a project in mind.

    • Sally says:

That’s awesome David. Great job on getting it done in a speedy fashion.

    • Barb says:

wow- way to make more money!!!

      • David says:

Yes! I have many more I can produce like this, it’s all a matter of finding the time and the headspace. The great thing about these is I do the work once, and then can collect royalties on purchases for years. It’s not a lot of royalties, but it all adds up, particularly across multiple training providers.

Wordle in 4 and coulda been 3. Connections with one mistake.

I did read about MAX picking up the GCN content. I have requested to work all the NCL races and if they don’t have a broadcast partner, I don’t see them happening.

A good night for the Geminids meteor shower last night. I think the peak was Wednesday, but there was a bit too much cloud. Last night was clear as a bell. in the 25 minutes I sat in the hot tub and watched, I saw 4 little ones, 1 medium, and one big one. The kind you expect to have a “report” (fireworks term for the bang at the end). When Debbie got home, we were standing on the driveway catching up and had another big one go by we both saw.

My year end bonus came in with today’s check. I feel quite appreciated!!
    Ho ho ho to me.

    • I had all but the middle letter with my third guess, two more guesses and I was finished.

    • Sally says:

That’s awesome and congrats. I don’t get a bonus. hahaha…I’ll just continue to plug along. Did not see the meteor shower. :(.

    • Barb says:

Year end bonus? my tax dollar at work actually going to a good cause?
      Congrats!!!
15 years at Matson – never any sort of bonuses – but at this job, we get a monthy bonus based on profits on the intermodal shipments we are involved in. Its been so fun seeing the extra paycheck every month. Not a huge amount of money – but enough that I really notice it.

      • Steve says:

The Fed isn’t supported by tax dollars. We charge banks for our services and return any excess at the end of the year to the Treasury.

Wordle in 5. Like Paulie, I just needed that middle letter and kept guessing the wrong one. Too many words to choose from. No mistakes in Connections. Like Paulie, again, I had yellow, green, purple and blue. Am I starting to think like him?

We tanked at Trivia last night in the bonus round. The question was too broad for our little minds.

Working today and tomorrow. Plan for Sunday is the Wheelhopper Hash but not sure about the weather. Need to finish cards, Christmas shopping and making jams. Probably should get on the roof and clean out the gutters before Sunday’s rain.

    Y’all have an awesome week-end.

  5. Steve says:

And yesterday’s story of the bull being loose on the train tracks in Newark happened right across the street from our office. Cracked me up…

  6. Jenka says:

Supposedly the drywall is going up today. The workers have a half day at their previous job and then they start on us. We shall see if it actually happens.

Today is Kevin’s firm’s holiday party. I have a lunch date and I will go up to BFE to attend the party after that. Thinking about going up to the cabin tomorrow morning just to have a kitchen for 24 hours.

  7. David says:

In other news, I am back among the masses that have a green Herbie Curbie. The city impressively dropped one off yesterday, within less than 48 hours of my service request.

I have a solo ticket for Steve Miller at the Fox on Sunday night. This is a bucket list concert for me, I’m glad I’m getting in under the wire to see him. I will definitely behaving a cheeseburger before the show.

    • Barb says:

I may have told you this – but I saw Steve Miller in high school -he was so drunk/stoned/whatever it was horrible. I have had a bad taste for him ever since. I think he got sober a while back, or I guess I hope he did.

      • David says:

I have pretty good intuition about which geezer bands will step up, and so I have a good vibe about this show. I’ll cut my losses and leave if he’s terrible, but given this is likely a last hurrah tour, I expect he’ll do well.

  8. Barb says:

    YELLOW – GREEN – PURPLE – BLUE
    I matched everyone’s order too!

and yellow category seems appropriate for today. 🙂

Wordle in 4 – the 3rd guess I totally wasted, using letters in spots I knew were wrong but hit enter by accident

  9. Debbie says:

Wordle in 5, only one wrong guess once I got the 4 in place. One mistake in Connections – green, blue, purple, yellow.

No new horse, just lots of driving. I do love our new truck. Its so comfortable and you can’t even tell you’re pulling a trailer – except the mileage drops for 20 mpg to 12. The drive up 75 was predictably monotonous, but the last hour on back roads was in the dark and terrible since I can’t see well in the dark. One stretch of new pavement with no lines was grip the wheel and pray every time there was an oncoming car.

I did accomplish all my white elephant Christmas shopping at Buccee’s. They also have the best price on diesel. There was a .75 cent range in diesel prices that I paid on this trip. And that price range was consistent in FL and GA so it wasn’t a tax issue. Saving .75/gallon on a 20 gallon fill up is worth the stop for sure.

Fig was my travel companion and she was super. I think the privilege went to get head though as she promptly started attacking the boys when they came near me once we were home. She’s a pistol.

Happy Friday. I have no plans since Steve talked me out of driving to Delaware to look at horses. I fly up there next week and try some. At least there, I can try enough different horses to make it worth the trip.

    • David says:

Holy shit, 12 MPG? I rented a Kia Soul in Arizona that got 38 MPG, which was perfect given that I had a total of 10 hours of being on the road amidst my destinations.

      • Steve says:

2500 GMC Denali pulling a horse trailer, albeit, without a horse coming home, so not a surprise. And I know the driver has a lead foot. Just ask those nice police officers in Lenox, Ga.

  10. Jenka says:

As I suspected, no drywall will be put up today. They did deliver the drywall, but they won’t come back to put it up until Monday. Sigh.
