Happy New Year!
I certainly didn’t expect to wake up with a hangover, but I did. Here’s what happened…
I drive out to Best Buy to make a purchase. Yes, Best Buy is still in business. On the way home I thought I’d check out the two breweries that were on the way home. I had a beer at the first one, and left because they were sold out of most things. At the second brewery, Southern Lights, I was talking to a guy at the bar, and it turned out we went to high school together. After a bit he asked me what my plans were and invited me over to his house to meet his wife, and hang out when his kids came over. He and I played some darts and cornhole, and when the people started to arrive he let me know that the wife wasn’t cool bringing home a stranger. Or perhaps he throw her under the bus and had decided he made a mistake doing so. Either way I returned to the house and spent the night home, passing out well before midnight.
I don’t expect to do much outside the house today.

I don’t worry about logistics this early. Depends on who all is going and the arrangements. :). Going to be a fun year. I love the Atlanta to Savannah route. Hopefully he won’t have us going down the potholed Peachtree Street!

I was home from a friend’s before 11pm.
I think the firework booms last night were crazier than last year, but I don’t care, it doesn’t bother me. But I was definitely not sleeping thru it.
Trip to Best Buy was to buy an adapter to hook my iPad up to the tv via HDMI. Wish I thought to bring the one that’s at home. Oddly couldn’t get the iPad to work, but was able to get the iPhone to work after it downloaded some firmware. Wonder if the iPad needs to do the same, which would suck since I can’t connect to the internet using it.
Barb, tried to set up a hotspot on my iPhone, and it tells me I have to contact AT&T. Probably my grandfathered cellphone plan doesn’t allow me to create one?
Time to head to Starbucks and borrow a cup of wi-fi.
Perhaps. Maybe I will bring the tv and act like I am going to set up a presentation. 🙂
That could be it, an old plan might make it not work.

Debbie and I headed to the city for lunch and bike shopping. Lunch at SFU was good as ever. Over to Outback Bikes for a look at the gravel bikes. Rode a Marin and a Giant and pulled the trigger on the Giant. It is really an entry level bike- 2×9 (I didn’t catch that) low end Shimano components and “tubeless ready” wheels. I didn’t want tubeless, so that’s fine. A nice 12 miles yesterday and it rode well after getting the saddle height right.
I think I watched football all day Saturday, and only turned on the Ga FSU game at the end. What a farce.
Last night we went to a bonfire over at some Bear Creek friends. Quiet, low key, perfect. We were to have Christmas with Debbie’s family, but a lot were sick, so that was rescheduled.

Happy New Year, all! 2023 was simultaneously one of the hardest and also best years of my life. Absolutely a sea change year.
I did absolutely nothing on Saturday and Sunday. I needed the time to recover from my tristate tour (NY/NJ/PA) that included three cheesesteak sandwiches in 24 hours in Philly. I had an unexpected second foray into NJ on Friday to visit Battleship New Jersey. Holy cow, I wouldn’t want to ever be anywhere near the receiving end of that thing. I communed with Poe at a house he lived in from 1843 to 1844 before decamping to Baltimore. His cellar was creepy as fuck. We also visited the Liberty Bell, but at no point where any women’s names exclaimed from the top of any stairs. I didn’t have time for that.

Steve, depending on how things go tomorrow with the house plumbing I may not leave FL until Friday, so I may or may not be able to attend your birthday lunch.

Believe me, I have no desire to fix plumbing problems at yet another house!

I just returned from eating a disappointing lunch. I drove up to a place called The Lucky Dill which used to serve amazing deli sandwiches. Not only was the corned beef not “piled high” it was shaved paper thin, something I would never do to corned beef.

Hung out in Florida last week so went pretty radio silent. Hope everybody had a great Christmas.
Good times down in Florida, parents are now in an apartment and the house is sold. We can breath a sigh of relief for 6 months or so until we figure out the next steps. Step mothers memory is not getting any better so will have to do something there.
Looking forward to Atlanta-Savannah BRAG, logistics are so much easier with this route. We will start talking how to get home soon enough. Worse case we get a couple bus passes but no need to jump on anything right now.
I would call AT&T for your hot spot, we had to call too and they turned it on for us. At least by calling you will know if your plan supports it or not.
