On Saturday, after absentmindedly volunteering with Trees Atlanta during poison ivy season, I made my first batch of pim(i)ento cheese. I tasted my concoction at lunch yesterday, spreading on a matzoh, and it was fantastic! The next time I make it, I’d like to see how much it costs compared to commercially-made versions.
It’s Cinc ‘o deMayo, so you well find me in an Irish pub today. Which one? I’m not sure yet.
My eyelid problem is not completely rectified, there is still a noticeable lump. I am going to have to call the doctor tomorrow.
Wordle: five, my starter was OPINE
Wordle in 4.
A long weekend of bike racing. Lagrange was well done and pretty well attended. A good women’s pro field that hit rain at the end. A late crash almost took out the entire break, but one rider remained and one came to the pit with a broken collarbone (as diagnosed by the pit mechanics and official (me)). She went back to the race and finished 2nd! Men’s race had to be cancelled because of flooding on course.
College Park went pretty well. A slow day at the pit, but the Pro Men caused me trouble. One came in with a front flat, but I had mis-read my scoring and re-inserted him into the break instead of the field. The break was being brought back, but that still isn’t a good look. Apparently the live stream was all over it. Later, the same rider went off the back, I whistled him out of the bike race, but the field was just coming by and he jumped back in. That later got him a DQ. Overall, the right rider won, my error did not affect the outcome and it was a pretty good day.
I’m whipped.

tap tap tap… is this thing on?
Yeah, I’m used to people ignoring my content, but at least commenting…
Unusuallychilly morning for Cinc ‘o deMayo convinced me to use the oven to make biscuits from scratch instead of getting out for a bike ride. “I sure hope it warms up before BRAG” — said no one ever.
Jesus Christ, according to the post office it appears that I am getting a bill from the eye doctor. I already paid them over $500 for two office visits and the procedure, not to mention the addition $25 I spent for an ointment that has not done Jack shit.
Perhaps instead of a call tomorrow, they will be receiving a visit.
Now I am completely confused. Looking at my credit card transactions, all of the payments I’ve made to them are listed as “Kaiser Permanente”, who is my insurance company. I fucking HATE healthcare.
Just dawned on me that the Chase app may be misidentifying the charges since it’s categorized as “Healthcare” and KP is the one in that category who has been draining my money the most.
I will still be paying them a visit…
1st bill you ever get from a doctor or whatever – ignore.
ALWAYS.
they can’t keep up with anything in a timely fashion.
But – I already got a check from my dental insurance – the appt was less than 2 weeks ago. I pay in full, they send to insurance, and then I get a check for whatever insurance decides to pay. They refuse to fight with insurance for their patients anymore, they leave it up to us. (yes, I agreed to all of this)
busy morning work wise…………
Going to go outside and do something that makes sense to me… washing pots.
And I was just startled by a cute, seven-inch small snake which was out sunning itself.
good morning – its still morning.
Busy enough weekend.
Friday – Margarita with JoAnna – she has decided to give her notice, and is “retiring”.
We will see if she can stand being home all day with Mike & not working.
Saturday – such a rainy day – went to a friends to help her hang some bathroom light fixtures – then to a 50th birthday party that was disco themed. It was fun, most everyone did dress up.
Sunday – I drove all over northern GA it felt like – went to a friend’s house in Canton, then gave a ride to a different friend back to Alpharetta, I was almost back home, I got talked into hash on after up in Kennesaw. The Mexican place had “special” Cinco de Mayo paper menus that were way too expensive. They had a band (that was loud & not good) in the parking lot, a bouncy house, and a mechanical bull. Dean, Stan & Libby (Ramaho’s daughter) tried the bull. The controller guy was nice to them…….
Nice
Sucks your eyelid is still swollen, have you done any ice/heat treatments? That may help as well.
ATL United game on Saturday was at 2:30, that really consumes the day. Leave the house at around 1 and get home around 6. Difficult to get motivated to so stuff before or after.
Sunday after yard work we went shopping. Decided to join Barb in the spending money phase and bought a Sleep Number bed. Lots of money but will be comfortable. The sales guy asked if I knew anybody that had a sleep number bed and I remembered Barb talking about hers. They found Allan’s email in the system so should be getting a $100 referral 🙂
Only 4 weeks to BRAG, I REALLY need to spend more time on the bike!
I can’t wait to see what that $100 is, I bet it’s a gift certificate to buy something from them – sheets, pillows, whatever.
But- thanks!!!
I have a thing for warm compresses that has failed me in the past, but I’m giving a whirl for the next few days.
I stand by my statement that I don’t believe Atlanta United is a good soccer club. I’m going to go one step further and predict that their manager will be fired, sacked in football parlance, before the end of the season.
Lunch. It’s left over pork and mash from a take out dinner I bought last night, to which I have added some pickled carrots I made last week and a biscuit I made this morning.
Debbie [my Debbie, not Steve’s 😉 ] saw Alice Cooper in Macon Saturday night. He is aging well at 77, and put on a fantastic show. Yes, at points there was snake handling and a guilloltine on the stage. I was on the fence about going about making the trek to Macon, but I had a feeling he’d put on a good show. The only un-Alice Cooper thing he did was start the show promptly at 7:30 and pull the plug at 9:00! 😉 Tickets were like $6/each through the VetTix.org app, so it was an offer I couldn’t refuse. The Atrium Healthcare Amphitheater in Macon is remarkably breezy to get in and out of. I’d definitely go see a show there again.
Clearly, he knows his market! (don’t keep us waiting and don’t keep us out late)
I’ll have to remember that venue.
Free parking in the adjacent Macon Mall parking lot. No lines getting in or out, and lots of exit points from the mall parking lot. If only Atlanta venues were that easy (and offered free parking!).
And yes, I think a) he knows his market and b), he doesn’t want to stay up late any more either. It was a definitely an unspoken “we’re all in this together ” kind of thing.
I have a friend that is a HUGE Alice Cooper fan, I wonder if he went.
Macon might not have been on his radar. I only knew because of the VetTix app. Your friend will get another chance in the fall, Alice Cooper is doing a nationwide tour with Judas Priest. Alice seems to be hitting podunk towns on this trip, with the expectation of really making some bank in the fall.
After seeing Alice Cooper on a golf course (on tv) I can’t think of him the same way I once did. Apparently, he’s a damn good golfer as well.
LOL
Was he in full regalia in on the golf course? Or like just a dude?
Full golf attire
Apparently I owe the eye doctor $35, because on my first visit I paid $135 of the $170 office visit. What a fucking rip off.
Whatever happened to your co-pay?
Ha!
1) I’m with Kaiser Permanente, so I have to cover $6500 out of pocket up before I get a co-pay.
2) The eye doctors on Scott Blvd, where I went because I had gone there eight years ago and had a good experience, does not accept KP so I am paying out of pocket.
Is that Eye Physicians and surgeons across from TLC’s hardware store?
Yes
More frustrating, is that for this $170 he basically confirmed I had a chalazion and prescribed me a $25 ointment.
And if they don’t “fix this problem” without charging me again, this will be a $1000 fucking swollen eyelid.
If it’s the first Monday of the month, so I had my monthly faculty meeting. It’s the last one of the year so it was brutally long.
VERY quiet weekend. Litrally the only thing I did was go out to lunch on Saturday. Otherwise all day each day I was reading and watching baseball.
Went to a Sonny’s BBQ for lunch meet up with some friends – haven’t been there is years & years.
Things I learned –
They have a bar – I had no idea they served drinks.
And – the salad bar has been gone for a while. I just remembered it was one of the few places left that had a salad bar.
So I got a regular salad, it was good – Allan got the brisket grilled cheese, he said it was very tasty.
I think grocery stores are one of the few places that you can still make your own salad, unless you’re at a conference or something that has buffet style food? I always ended up with some weird salads anyway, so I don’t miss them. I especially don’t miss the disease laden tongs. Eating at a buffet in Mexico 20+ years ago made me swear off buffets for life.
I know, its been years since I’ve eaten a salad from a salad bar. Ruby Tuesday’s I think still has one, and Jason’s Deli had one last time I was at Subaru in Kennesaw getting service, and that was long, long ago.
