Whenever I move, or die, I will miss The EARL. Though I was a chicken shit last night and drove to EAV instead of walking, I saw a great show put on by the band Sunflower Bean.

I made my first attempt at a short crust pastry this week: I made meatloaf pasties. The pasties were not pretty, and the dough was slightly dry, but they were edible and I will try again in the future.

I really need to buy and install a locking mailbox. I hate to spend $200 and do the work because I don’t get too much physical mail these days. But the post office has become so unreliable, and I can no longer count on them to hold mail on the days I’ve requested. I purposely start and end a few days before and after a trip, to check their work; they failed again.

Wordle: four, my starter was ANISE

  1. Guess what? It’s going to rain again today…

    Wordle in 4.

Because of the bridge on 54 being rebuilt, I have to avoid part of a usual route as the locals who know the gravel way around the bridge are using it, and it’s barely wide enough for a single car. Meeting or being passed by a car there is not pleasant. My ride still had to avoid roads that would also be pretty impassable by the rain. I was able to still get 15 in, which feels piddling.

Debbie made a veggie stir fry topped with salmon last night. Really good.

And I forgot to mention, apparently in Tuesday’s Giro stage, a rider went off the road and down a 50′ embankment! I went back and saw what I thought was the crash and he just slid off the road in the wrong place. Had he been stopped by a guardrail, I’m sure he would have jumped up and quickly returned. Only injury was road rash, but the ambulance ride kinda ended his race.

Allan’s parents have one of those locking mailboxes.

What about asking Betsy, or someone else that isn’t too far away to come by a couple times? I know you have the informed delivery emails – maybe watch the email & send “whoever” a message that today there is something that’s a little important, so please swing by today? If I was closer, I’d do it for you.
Because of informed delivery – I only grab the mail every few days.

    • Steve says:

I still can’t imagine what’s coming by USPS that’s so critical?? I can’t think of anything we receive that’s all that.

      • I received a check from the Federal Government this year. I often get things I’d rather not, like life insurance and credit card offers, both of which seem like great vectors for identity theft.

        • David says:

If you freeze your credit, the risk of identity theft drops to near zero.

          • I have told all of the Big Three credit firms to freeze my credit, but I still don’t trust the process. I’ve had too many failures by companies and government agencies to do so.

    • I will ask Betsy, but it annoys me to no end to have to rely on someone because the post office can’t do their job. Just a few weeks ago almost all of the mailboxes on my street were opened, and most of the mail on the street. Who knows what was taken? Fortunately, I’d emptied my mailbox that afternoon.

Rain rain rain!! So tired of it! One last ride before BRAG does not look good 🙁

Atlanta United actually won last night! Fun game as they came back for the W. The team did look good last night but I have noticed that their opponents always seem to have more of a sense of urgency and ATL looks a little lethargic. Just my unprofessional opinion.

I agree with Barb, I’m sure Betsy or somebody close would stop by to grab any mail that shows up. How do locking mailboxes work? Are they obviously locked? That may indicate you are out of town and invite criminals. Again, my unprofessional opinion

    • My legs are as trained as they will be for BRAG. I just cleaned my bike, and will be delivering to Stan for transportation tomorrow.

The locking mailbox has a slot which theoretically makes it impossible to reach into the box to steal things. Of course, locks are only really good at keeping honest people out, thieves will get in if they want it bad enough. The theory is to make it just hard enough so that they move on to someone else.

Atlanta United won? Wow, when I last checked the score it was 2-2, very late in the game. Just imagine how good they would be if their high-dollar players scored goals?

      • Bob says:

Good point, thieves are lazy so if they have to work for it they will just move on.

The end of the game was crazy! 4 yellow cards and a red card, Orlando coach was also ejected for what looked like a fight on the sidelines. Last goal was scored in extra time, very exciting

      • Barb says:

yea – it’s a square mailbox – with a slot on the front.
To get your mail out, it has a locking door on the back.
I’ve never gotten the in-laws mail out of it, their next-door neighbor usually does. (but – side note, they ladies have had a tiff, so next time they leave town I’m guessing they will ask us to go get their mail)

        • Jenka says:

          Oooooh! What is it about?!

          • Barb says:

Player was grabbed by the throat, there was ejections, there was lots of yelling, it was mayhem!

            just kidding –
a group email was sent (in error) and I’m not sure what Dottie said (Mary won’t tell me) – but Mary ain’t happy. She wants an apology.
I was proud of Mary, she did reply to the group email with some sort of comment (just so Dottie would realize what she had done)

          • Jenka says:

LOL! If you find out what the email said let me know. I’m always curious about these things, you never know how petty (or not petty) they are.

          • Barb says:

sorry Jenka – I don’t think she will ever tell me, but I do ask occasionally to find out if they have made up

  5. After watching the first few episodes of “Clarkson’s Farm”, season 4, our rain doesn’t seem that bad. However, it still is a downer.

  6. Barb says:

Allan is off to a Peachtree Road race meeting this morning – I guess the planning has started.

Met Kevin last night for “inexpensive” dinner – we were researching 1/2 price wine night on Wednesdays – and came across Hearth Pizza Kitchen (Sandy Springs) has a bottle of house wine & small pizza for $20. We upgraded to a medium pizza, total bill for dinner was $30. Hadn’t seen him in a while, so it was good to catch up.

  7. Jenka says:

The United game was fun! We had to leave before the craziness because Finn had to get to bed. We have two more games this season.

I know it’s not a popular opinion but I love the rain. I’ll take this over 95 and sunny any day.

  8. David says:

I too was at the Atlanta United game last night. I had $4/tickets behind one of the goals thanks to http://www.vettix.org. Atlanta couldn’t hit the damn broad side of a barn last night, so it was a wonder that they won. At the very end of the game, they had fourth opportunity to score, the opposing goal was unattended, and the player could have just done a lay-up, but instead he swung for the fences and overshot the goal. How’s that for some mixed sports metaphors? I agree with Bob, ATL was lethargic until about 75 minutes in when they started swapping players out. That’s when things started getting interesting. And that one player who got red carded was making like he wasn’t going to leave the field…
