Rain Rain Go Away

Seriously, I mean it.

Huh, That Wasn’t Exactly The Way It Was Supposed To Go
Whoa, did Saturday ever not go as planned…

The initial plan was to get an early-morning bike ride (scrapped due to rain) and then head to the Atlanta Linux Fest (not scrapped because it was indoors). Then, while lazying about, I received a text message from ITP-Reader Betsy inviting me over to have some mimosas and Mexi-breakfast with her garage sale (scrapped due to rain) compadres ITP-Reader Terri, ITP-Reader Pat, and Lynette. As an added bonus we’d also begin a day of pre-birthday celebrations for ITP-Tony. After a few hours of watching rain the plan turned in to all taking a few hour break and meet up at East Atlanta’s Holy Taco for some food followed by attending the East Atlanta Strut (not scrapped due to rain, but attendance was way down).

Like the Olden Days of Joy I walked up to East Atlanta Village. I figured that with the Strut I’d be unable to find close parking, and since I knew that I was drinking it’d be smart to walk. My plan was also my downfall as it meant that I didn’t have to drink responsibly.

Drinks at Holy Taco, drinks at the Strut, drinks (including shots) at Midway Pub. All of this led to a very drunk Paulie who managed to walk home at some time and pass out — never making it to ITP-Martha’s birthday bash (not scrapped due to rain).

One New Credit Card, One Morning Wasted
My new credit card finally arrived in Saturday’s mail. I’d been anticipating its arrival because I knew just how many businesses charged the old card for monthly payments. I didn’t realize just how long it was going to take me to update all of these accounts, however. It didn’t help that for some sites changing the credit card billed is akin to pulling teeth. Hell, I’m not sure that I even managed to get to all of my creditors yet. I suppose that time will tell.

My camera is like a cat, it doesn’t go out in the rain. Oh, and it didn’t help that I was drinking most of Saturday and recovering most of Sunday.

What Is The Point Of Hulu If It Doesn’t Get New Programming?
I’m finally getting around to watching/listening to last Wednesday’s Top Chef. Normally my DVR would record Top Chef, but my satellite signal was defeated by the rain and local trees which get weighed down when it rains so hard. My work DVR managed to record the event, but I was never able to find the time last week to play it in the background.

I didn’t worry about seeing it so much because I knew that Hulu carried Top Chef episodes so I figured that I’d just watch it at home over the weekend. Color me surprised to find that Hulu has had no new Top Chef episodes in weeks. I don’t see the point in having the website if I can’t use it for what it was intended.

Further confusing me is that NBC owns Top Chef’s network Bravo (or so I believe) and is also part owner of Hulu. Where is the conflict of interest there? Put your product on the website you created to distribute your product!!!

The Double-D’s Have Doubled My Pleasure!
The East Atlanta Deadbeat Dads puppetmaster (that’d be me) pulled almost all of the right strings yesterday. My boys are now 2-0 which doubles the amount of victories that I enjoyed all last year.

My only complaint for the weekend is that I think my league’s defensive scoring is not on par with the offensive scoring. My New York Jets defense won, held the New England Patriots to nine points (and no touchdowns) and intercepted one pass. You mean to tell me that their efforts they were only worth six points?

Half my office is not here due to flooded streets….. I wish I had that excuse, my 1.5 mile commute is not a good thing today.

I missed Martha’s birthday party as well – only good excuse is my back wasn’t up for standing around all night, and with the rain, I figured it would be wall-to-wall people inside. (sorry Martha, I still owe you a birthday drink or dinner or something)

We only got out for the Falcons game, and if I hadn’t had paid for those tickets, we might have skipped that as well. (at least it was a good game)

  2. Software developers are notorious for showing up to work at late hours, so I’m not surprised how quiet it is around here. However, I was in the office by 7am and if all of the late MFers decide that they have the right to leave work at their normal time I will be miffed.

It was an odd weekend. I puked on Saturday night (and felt sooooo much better once I did). Also, my body feels like it has atrophied after one day of laying around on the couch and bed.

  3. Barb says:

well – we got a few more people in, but none of the Paulding (or Gwinnett) county people, but, now one just had to leave (her daughter’s daycare decided to close), so now we will have a 2 year old here with us today too!

Puking can be a good thing, I’m sure it actually helped the hangover to be a little less the next day.

  4. Terri (SW) says:

Puked? Oh dear…yesterday was ROUGH! Still feel like I need another day of sleep. Not as hearty as I used to be, that’s for sure…

Apparently, I am trying out for the Roller Girls. Did I mention that I can’t ride a bike, much less roller skate? Hmmm…

  5. The puking helped immensely (as I knew that it would). I was actually surprised/pleased with how quickly it happened when I decided to try.

Hey Terri, do I owe anyone money for Saturday night? I remember paying for two pitchers of Smithwicks and Betsy’s Budweiser.

Also, do you have a good Roller Girl name yet? Apparently, much like hashing, that’s the most important asset.

  6. Terri (SW) says:

Not sure about the money situ…I know it was handled because I remember throwing someone money for the shots and a pitcher. I think we’re cool…we also had over $100 in bar cash. Besides, it’s not like I won’t be back at the Midway at least twice this week…someone will definitely let me or Patrick know if we accidentally drunken “short-changed.” We were there until two, so surely someone would have let us know by then.

Ugh…just rememebering all those details made my head hurt.

BTW- There’s no way in hell I’m trying out for the Roller Girls…I kinda like having teeth and unbroken bones **knocks wood**

  7. Terri (SW) says:

    “rememebering”- WTF?

  8. Okay, cool. I have an old Midway Gift Card from a raffle I won last year. I’m not sure how much of the original $100 remains, but perhaps some week I’ll join “Stephen Hawking’s Football Boots” and toss it toward the bill.

Damn ITP-Reader Tony and his birthday…

  9. Martha says:

You all weren’t the only ones that blew off the party. It was a low turnout. I think this will be the last year for the Martha Birthday Bash…just too much work. My 40th Birthday Months has been very anti-climactic.

A big thanks to those that did show.

  10. Sorry to hear of the low turnout Martha. I gave up on throwing my own birthday parties because of the amount of work as well as owning an air conditioner which has trouble cooling a house during July’s heat.

I can imagine that many people chose not to weather the storm. Get it!?!?! Weather. The. Storm….. *ugh, that’s the best I can do*

Chin up! Things could be worse, you could be Barb’s age. (which is my age too of course).

  11. sal says:

Great……a morning’s worth of blog puke! Sounds like you had quite the evening.

Still waiting on the Cheesecake to arrive from Gwinnett County 🙂

We have water in the basement.

The little creek here at the business complex is way above it’s banks.

Sorry Martha, I didn’t come out either….got up early to drive to Ducktown to run a 1/2 marathon trail race and then raft the Ocoee…didn’t get home until after 6:00, was very tired. No excuse…but it’s the one I have.

  12. Sal, I initially never intended to bring up the puking. Get it!?!?! Bring. Up. The. Puking….. *ugh, that’s the best I can do* But alas, I did anyway.

I hoping to go home and find a dry basement. It’s the least my house can do since it has so many other problems.

Your creek is the same one that I used to watch overflow its banks routinely when I was at my old office. Isn’t paving the Earth and providing massive run-off water fantastic?

  13. Steve says:

Sorry I could not make it to the party Martha. After a long day of work in Birmingham, driving to Stone Mountain for the Games kickoff party (where I helped cook 200 hamburgers) and reeking of cooking 200 hamburgers, I decided the best idea was to head south.

Please consider your next beverage at Georges on me.

    -FP

  14. Sal says:

I’m glad you can humor yourself today Paulie! Remember that when you have a look see at your basement! 🙂

  15. Martha says:

Oh, I’m not upset. Its been noted and understood, you and others had more important things going on. I’m thankful for my friends that did show up to celebrate, I had a great time.

  16. I’ll try to retain my sense of humor tonight. It may be difficult if I return home to a soaked carpet however — that shag is difficult to replace. 😉

  17. cody says:

So… I was listening to GSU radio and the dj said he was gathering wood for an ark… Then i read this:

Hilarious… Gotta love the chick with the “crotchety indian.”
