Revelation

I now realize why my pants aren’t feeling looser, I’m not losing weight. I thought that with the exercise I’ve been doing this year that I’d be shedding some weight, but I guess that I’ve managed to compensate with extra caloric intake. DANGEN!

Desired: 180.0 pounds
Actual: 218.5 pounds (April 11, 2016)

I’ve a long way to go…

From C To Shiny SE
On Friday afternoon I meandered over to the Apple Store inside Perimeter Mall to discuss iPhone upgrading. I was fortunate to find a lull in the otherwise frantic action of an Apple Store to immediately talk to an employee, explain what I was seeking, and inform him of the “issue” I was having with my iPhone 5c. Before I knew it I was buying a new (gold? whaa?) iPhone SE with 64GB of storage, and getting $100 for my iPhone 5c. Admittedly $100 isn’t much for a functioning iPhone, but it was two years old and had a broken SIM card tray which would make selling it on eBay or Craigslist problematic; it was worth the immediacy and convenience for me.

The new iPhone is exactly what I expected it to be, and is unlocked so that I should be able to get local SIM cards when I travel to Germany in June.

Many Hands Make Little Work
I used the high winds and cold temperatures as excuses for not riding on Saturday. From what I heard about later, I made the right decision.

Instead I made my way to Colony Square where I purchased four $1 German books, of varying skill level. There was one book that I had in my hand that I thought I had bought too, but upon emptying my bag did not see. I think that I decided not to buy it because the book was printed prior to the 1996 German Spelling Reform and I was concerned that I would be picking up bad, outdated habits from it.

After making my purchases I wandered into the Goethe’s meeting room and watched one half of a German soccer match.

I made my way up to Marietta around 11:30am where I joined in the work of raising the roof of the new shed. ITP-Reader Barb and Allan have the makings of a nice compound underway. As always it was good to see ITP-Reader Steve as well, and I finally managed to transfer his Beautiful Backroads t-shirt that has been in my possession since August/September of last year.

The plan was to make Saturday night an evening of German studying and jazz listening (on WABE), and I failed miserably by falling asleep very early.

Dreaming Of Streaming
I was awake around 6:30am on Sunday morning and immediately tuned my iPad to the NBC Sports app to watch the live streaming of Paris-Roubaix. After about 4.5 hours of “watching” (I made and ate breakfast, gathered dirty laundry, etc) I watched the amazingly close finish for a race that lasted roughly six hours.

I finally made it out of the house to go up and do laundry; I needed to get it done today because I have something scheduled every evening until a week from today.

After getting my laundry done I went for a retired-person’s dinner — at 3:30pm! Because I had such a bad experience on my last visit to Pollo Norteño, I made my way over to Los Bravos on Johnson Ferry and Ashford Dunwoody and ate a large plate of carnitas.

Oh, so this is why I am not losing weight…

Upon returning home and putting away now-clean laundry I packed a few things for Spring Tune Up later this week, pulled out my bicycle and rack in anticipation of a post-work ride today, and spent the rest of the evening trying to study German.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Thanks to Steve & Paul for helping Saturday – we owe you guys one. Let us know when you need some payback.

Sold the Santa Cruz Saturday – that makes me happy to have it gone.

I’m kinda with you on the weight thing, Paulie. I’d love to just feel a little lighter going into spring/summer. And though I’ve been stomping around more lately (the Fitbit keeps me honest), I REALLY need to look at my diet. I think a big part is the alcohol….if I could just cut that out for a few weeks, I’d bet it would make a difference. I bet it would for you too.

You did much more than I did on Saturday. I did NADA. Laid around the house. Watched a couple of movies. Vegged out to the Nth degree.

To make up for it, went stomping around yesterday. Walked Beltline down to Inman Park to see the newest tinydoorsatl door and then to Krog Market for no apparent reason. While there and uploading the photo to Instagram I saw that Fellow Thursday Night Trivia Player Alan had just posted at PCM. So I texted him and asked if he wanted to meet for a drink (see? It’s that alcohol thing — but it’s sooooo yummy!). YAY for a social media win! We decided on Venkman’s, which was as close to being halfway toward each other for each of us as could be managed. My first visit – nice place! They had an afternoon quartet of musicians that were really pretty good and their bloody mary mix is made from scratch by the chef. Win win. Even tried their signature “ecto cooler” slushy drink, but that was meh. I bet it would be good on a hot summer day though.

On the way to work today, ran into my landlord (the brother of the brother-sister duo) who said he confronted my neighbor about the incident I discussed here a couple weeks back, asking if he needs to involve the police. Apparently my neighbor was first indignant that I got the landlords involved in the first place, then denied it/called me a liar, but apparently still thinks I might have taken his phone all the same. THE HELL? That certainly flies in the face of the bottle of wine he left by my door last weekend by way of apology, I was assuming. (And that I promptly gave back) Ah well. I still have all his messed up messages in case I need them.

  3. No payback needed Barb, you and Allan have done many things for me.

Post-German-Test I will make a return to Venkman’s after a German class for the Tuesday night Jazz Jam. I also have an old Flickr acquaintance who plays in a Weezer cover band called El Scorcho who is supposed to play there in May.

I’ll have to get my diet corrected next week. I have a feeling that all restraint will be off this weekend during BRAG Spring Tune Up.

Continued improving luck with the neighbor…

  4. Forgot to mention: Had to laugh on Friday night when I wondered if a war had started in Atlanta as I heard many booms. I then recalled that it was the first Friday night Braves game which are followed by fireworks.

Sadly the same couldn’t be said for the handful of pops I heard in the distance last night.

  5. Steve says:

    Let’s see…

Friday was a bit of lumberjacking. I learned the limit of the tractor and what it can and can’t push over. I can do a big dogwood and some bigger hickory, but a 8 inch oak is a little too much to get the root ball out.

Saturday, there was the roofing gig- lots of fun, no repayment required, but you do have to post last years (!!) Masters pictures!

Yesterday, I drove up to the Luthersville Library and sat in the parking lot and streamed Paris-Roubaix. I was only able to watch for a little while as Debbie made us French toast before we did the whole funeral home visitation. There were easily 500 or more people who were there. This gentleman was well known and well loved- his wife was obviously distraught- I don’t know if seeing that many people and having to interact with them was a blessing or not. Holy cow.

Steve – that whole plugging in a cord to the computer & the camera – its soooo hard! Ok, I’m just too lazy.

I’m 100% sure I could lose a few pounds by correcting my diet & cutting back on the alcohol………. maybe someday I’ll actually do that. I really need to. But – probably not this week. At least I hope to get some good excerise at Spring Tune Up.

  7. Steve says:

Next time we’re up that way, I’ll help you plug it in.

  8. Barb says:

gotta find the cord too……. more difficulties.

  9. Well poop! When I packed this morning there was 0% chance of rain (though admittedly it was overcast). Now, there is a 50% chance of rain, which for me is too great. If by 6:00pm the forecast doesn’t improve I shan’t be taking the bike out for a ride tonight after all.

  10. Barb says:

I love how you believe the weather forcasters……….

  11. I believe the radar. This morning there was nothing, now, a lot of green and yellow that is headed our way.
