85

Seriously WordPress? This is the second time I’ve used the title “85”?

Oh well, I know that this is the first time I’ve used “85” in this context — I scored an 85 on my German A2 Exam. In order to pass I had to score better than 60, which if my math is correct means that I have passed! I believe that this means that I can be hired to work in Germany, not that I’m trying to do so at my advanced age. But, if the Atlanta offices of Porsche or Mercedes Benz ever need software developers it will be a nice thing to add to my resume.

I did manage to lose the beer bet that I had with two of my classmates. The only four people to take the German A2 exam this time around were me and three classmates. Thankfully all four of us passed. I scored second-highest of the four of us, and in doing so owe the lowest scorer a beer. I’m okay with this outcome.

I’ve Given In To Google/YouTube
For the longest time I’ve been watching YouTube videos without signing into a Gmail account. I suppose that I’ve always had issues with Google knowing how many cat videos I’ve been watching… And it’s not like I’ve been watching YouTube to a great extent, thanks mostly due to the constant buffering I see when connecting to Google properties (thanks AT&T U-Verse?).

This morning I became a YouTube subscriber for “GardenFork”, “The Art of Photography”, “Bobke TV”, and “Global Cycling Network”, the first two of which I’ve been a podcast subscriber as well.

I Hope To Ride Again Tonight
According to all forecasts I’ve seen the weather won’t be an issue tonight. I’ve also ensured that I’ve packed all requisite clothing, helmet, shoes, and water bottles. Now all I need to do is work up the gumption and hope that my nether-regions are cooperative.

Less A/C, More Air
With the A/C functioning as well as it can I have been leaning on it to cool the house down (to my satisfactory temperature) more often. This morning when I went outside to put the bike onto the M6 I was shocked how pleasant (read “much cooler”) it was outside in comparison to the house. When I wasn’t using the air I always consulted the weather forecasts and tried to suck in the cooler night air using box fans. I should have done this last night, and will try to remind myself to return to checking the weather forecast before blindly pushing the A/C down a few degrees.

Hope you all have a great day.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Did you buy some Chamois Butter?
Per many males I know, that should help.

    Congrats on passing the test!
Do you think your German is good enough to actually work in Germany?
Maybe you should look for a new job while over there.
(tell your mom she’s moving with you)

Ausgezeichnet! Ich bin sehr stolz auf dich.
(To save the non-Deutsche speakers time- “Excellent! I am very proud of you”)

It was also quite pleasant last night after the evening started and the sun began to set. I went for a 20 mile ride then met Debbie and her riding pals (I’d say girls, but there is one guy… although he’s pretty much a girl too) to celebrate a birthday at Bear Creek.

I guess Zelda missed us all evening, as she would not calm down through the night. Debbie took her out 4 times (that I know of) and she finally settled. I think she has some raging hormones and wanted to go out and party. This better come to an end soon.

BRAG Century day! Gonna be a hot one.

I think I’d skip the century & go ride one of the shorter routes, and then go to the all afternoon movie event they have planned in Dublin. (in the A/C).
I can’t remember what the movies are, but we did that one time years ago, it was a nice afternoon.

  4. I hope to have chamois butter arrive in the mail from Amazon today. I could have bought some while at REI or Performance Bike on Monday, but had already ordered online by then.

My German is in no way good enough to get a job. While I am starting to get a grip on the grammar rules, my vocabulary and recognition of idiomatic phrases would have to improve dramatically.

There is no way that I’d be riding a century today…

  5. Demoralized — I just tried doing a Thursday NYT crossword puzzle in competition with coworkers and was stumped. My brain hurts.
