Beginning Of The End

Wow, my “final” week after 19.5 years of continuous employment, and, it’s all my doing.

Ride, Ride, Ride
Even though I tried to talk myself out of doing so, I managed to get rides in on Saturday, Sunday, and this morning. On Saturday and Sunday I rode 34 miles, from East Atlanta to Stone Mountain and back. I intended to ride fifty miles yesterday but my inferior genetics, which will no doubt prove to be challenging next week at RAGBRAI, convinced me to cut my ride short. This morning I pedaled around the Chastain area, putting in 25 miles.

Today’s ride also marked the debut of the new tires I put on the bike last night. Performance Bike was having a sale, including taking an additional 20% off the final price, so I picked up a pair of new Continental GatorSkin tires, in addition to a bunch of other small things. Last night I managed to put on the new tires, only destroying one tube in the process. I thought I had sufficiently massaged the tire/tube before inflating it to the final pressure, but as soon as I hit 110 psi I heard a pop; apparently there was still a bit of tube between the tire and the rim.

Still Thinking About Germany
On Saturday night I wound up at Thinking Man Tavern. I had no idea that they had authentic Kölsch on tap, but when I saw this I just had to order some to relive my time in Germany.

My Eye Is Slowly Returning To Normal
It’s been a long, annoying process getting the swelling of my eye to go down. Each day I apply the ointment as prescribed, impatiently expecting my right eye to look like my left eye again.

Going To The Dentist Today
Today is my scheduled six-month check-up. Unfortunately I think that I have a cavity in one of my rear molars and think that I will be visiting the dentist again before my next six-month check-up.

Going To See Yesterday’s Birthday Girl Tonight
Tonight I’ll be headed to Marietta to visit with ITP-Reader Barb and Allan. I’ll be bringing the bike over for Allan to give it a once-over to ensure that it’s ship-shape for my journey to Iowa at the end of the week. I probably should have let Allan put the new tires on the bike, but I wanted to appear that I a not entirely inept, and it only cost me one tube to do so. 🙂

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Good times on vacation – did way too much, I’m exhausted & need a vacation from my vacation.
Trying to get caught up here at work.

    See you tonight Paulie!!!
(you get to see Sal’s new bike as well, I think she’s coming to get it later this week – she has to find some money to pay for it – hahahaha)

I managed only 25 on Saturday- just didn’t feel great. I was out early enough to beat most of the heat. Maybe a week of the bike was catching up.

We took a nice drive Saturday evening down to Woodbury to investigate a restaurant. Looked good and had a decent cheesecake- we had a late lunch and weren’t really that hungry. Drove back via a covered bridge, which we could get to on a ride from home. Still in good shape, too.

Sunday had us in the pool at Bear Creek. Note to self, don’t let Debbie spray the sunscreen. I have 2 white stripes on my chest, surrounded by red!

    Happy birthday Barb (again).

  3. I made sure to get out early to beat the heat

    Saturday: 7:45am
    Sunday: 7:00am
    Monday: 6:30am

however there was still plenty of humidity on each day.

Paulie – Allan may be in the backyard in the shed when you get there – so you can find him.
I’m hoping to get out of here on time (5pm) – but too much fun here at work might make me a little late.

  5. Okay, thanks. I just returned from the dentist — all is good for now — and will try to leave the office at 5pm.
