On The Road

If you are one of the early readers I am probably out getting in a bike ride at the time you read this. I’m hoping to get in 35-40 miles this morning as my final preparation for my Bike & Brewery Tour with Sojourn Tours which starts on Sunday and consists of six days of riding. All along I thought that this trip consisted of five days of riding, so I had to scramble to get one more kit packed. It’s time for me to start paying attention to details again.

Plywood Presents Is Over
Yesterday’s session was better than Tuesday night’s, but I am still on the fence whether or not I will attend next year’s in August of 2017. I did score two free books yesterday, one of which I have packed for my upcoming trip.

After the event I met up with ITP-Reader Stacy at Park Bar. Because I didn’t know how long we’d be hanging out, and there was a threat of rain, I moved my car from one parking lot to another. I pulled into the second lot and found that they wanted to charge me $15 for up to four hours of parking. I balked at this attempted off-highway robbery. I noticed that there was on-street parking, which was only $2/hour, and I was able to use the ParkMobile app to make my payment. To be certain that I’d have plenty of time I purchased four hours, thus saving myself $7.

It was really good catching up with Stacy over a few beers and dinner.

“Olé, Olé, Olé” (Humeston, Iowa, United States)

Olé, Olé, Olé
Humeston, Iowa’s mascot is Olé (pronounced “Olly”) the bull. I didn’t get to see Olé, but I heard that he was aliv and well.

“Mystic Iowa’s Old Fire Station” (Mystic, Iowa, United States)

Mystic Iowa's Old Fire Station
I wanted to take a photo of Mystic Iowa’s old fire station, fortunately this young lady rode through my frame.

“The Big Kernel” (New York, Iowa, United States)

The Big Kernel
This is New York, Iowa. As far as I could see it consists of two houses. They rejected my suggestion of calling it “The Big Kernel”.

On My Way To Vermont
Tonight, now that Delta has pushed back my flight, I’ll be headed to Vermont. I’ll have one day in Burlington to myself before I meet up on Sunday with the group with whom I will be riding. Because Burlington is an inexplicably expensive place to stay I am going to try staying at a hostel tonight and tomorrow.

As is always the case when I travel I’m almost completely packed as I write this.

More House Woes
The ITP Estate’s air conditioning is struggling again. When I return from Vermont I need to call the company that originally installed the new compressor and blower and get them to fix it. I’m so tired of having to deal with house issues…

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday, I’ll be checking in routinely today, and a wonderful weekend. Unlike Iowa I will be staying in hotels in Vermont so I should be able to blog regularly next week.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Sounds like a fun time. I have yet to go to that part of the world and if Debbie could get her way, we’d be moving there for the summer!

Except for a wedding, lunch meeting, party at Bear Creek and 2 projects at work Sunday, I have nothing planned.

Safe travels and happy weekend everyone.

    busy, busy, busy at work.
Allan’s been hanging with Katrina & the kids everyday, last night he & TJ took the boys to the Braves game. rain delay meant they didn’t get home until midnight. Hope the boys finally slept in a little this morning.
TJ rented a wheelchair to go to the game – I guess you get primo parking (& seats) with a handicap tag.

No idea what’s on the agenda for sure today – Katrina said something about a trampoline place……..

It was so nice to catch up with you again. Have events downtown more often.

    And have a wonderful trip!

Okay, weren’t we promised dates for a fall party….? 😉

  6. This was the first of the two trips planned, RAGBRAI sort of fell in my lap once I realized that I could afford a sabbatical.

Party will occur, I haven’t had time to consult my calendar.

Wait- TJ is in a wheelchair from the fall off the ladder?

  8. Steve, he’s in a boot on crutches. I’d guess the wheelchair was for convenience in getting around Turner Field.

Next year in the new fantastical Suntrust Park I’m sure people will be able to get around on magic carpets and anti-gravity skateboards.

  9. Just realized that I never resized my photos today. Poop!

Been flip-flopping all day on whether or not to pack my helmet. Sojourn says that they have helmets available, so I really don’t *need* to bring mine. However, I know my helmet inside and out and may want that comfort while riding on unknown roads. Decisions, decisions.

Oh hell. I might as well use Sojourn’s and save myself the hassle of lugging around my helmet.

Lyft stuck me with a 150% “prime time” up-charge when I booked a ride around 3:30. I hate this practice.
