Not much to discuss today. The biggest news yesterday was Apple’s announcements, including the lack of the announcement of a new iPhone, and the postponement of BRAG Spring Tune Up to 2021. Barb, if Steve has another adhoc gathering and you have any influence, I’m sure Bonnie and I would love to be invited.

Healthwise things are improving, if ever so slowly, and of course new things are occurring — why is the middle finger on my left hand stiff and sore today? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Today I intend to finish up the laundry I started last night, clean up some of the messes I created yesterday, do a lot of coding, and hopefully put some time in on the trainer; let’s call today “Progress Day”! Half of September has passed, I should consult my monthly To Do list to start knocking off some of these items too.

I am keeping an eye on Sally. Because I have a bulk waste pickup scheduled for next Tuesday I have a ton of yard work to do this weekend and would love to not try and accomplish it in rain.

Hope you are continuing to be healthy and happy.

  1. Body pain aside my day has started well, I just opened a pocket in my Kindle carrying case looking for a USB cable and found money I forgotten that I stashed! 🤑

    Mid-September accomplishments?

    Hmmm…..

    I have a great idea for a work-from-home business:
    – Used 1970’s Craftsman metal lathe via Craig’s List ($500)
    – Miscellaneous tooling for metal lathe ($100)
    – “Make your own ballpoint pen” kit from Rockler, ink refill, pocket clip, etc. ($5)
    – Acrylic (fancy name for plastic) pen blank ($5)
    – Numerous grits of sandpaper, 100, 200, 400, 600, etc. (already had it)
    – Automotive rubbing compound, used for door scratches, etc. (had it)
    – automotive body wax (had it)
    – 2-3 hours on metal lathe making pen (figure $15/hour minimum wage, right?)

    So, what’s that? $500 + $100 + $5 + $5 + $45 (labor) = $655 for a ball point pen.

Sure, there are millions of ballpoint pens, but…

So, currently taking orders at $750.00 each + shipping to CONUS only (no color choice, wait time 4-6 weeks).

BTW: Paulie you nailed it in yesterday’s ITP Blog:
“They announced to help reduce carbon emissions they are no longer going to package a USB charger with an AppleWatch. Only Apple is arrogant enough to pat themselves on the back while fucking you in the ass…”

    And by the same token:
“All Apple retail locations are 100% energy independent…”
What a total load of BS…
That’s it, a retail store in a shopping mall is, powered off the mains is….100% energy independent.

    And this just in:
Tim Cook: “And starting in January 2021, all Apple iMac and MacBook computers will ship without chargers or power cables, and saving over umpty-bazillions tons of carbon annually! (And saving us a boatload of $$$) That’s the equivalent of 4 Trump rallies or the carbon created in manufacturing 2.2 Tesla batteries…”

Public Service Announcement: Do not be one of the first to brick, errrrr….upgrade your Apple iPhone to iOS14. <– you have been warned.

    • That being said, if I can retire a few months little earlier on my remaining Apple shareholdings I’m all for it! 🙄😂

I am holding off for a week to move my “daily driver” devices to iOS 14. Today I am installing it on my old iPhone SE and an iPad Mini that is essentially “disposable”. Ironically, this iPad Mini was purchased to replace a iPad Mini that inexplicably bricked itself!

    • Bob says:

Shipping without cables is definitely a dick move by Apple. If they are just shipping without charging bricks I’m OK with that, I must have 25 of them sitting around the house.

      • I think they are excluding the bricks only. From what I heard last night you can buy the brick, for a stupidly high price ($15). I get where Apple is coming from, but you should be able to request one for free at the time of purchase since even Apple is touting how many people are buying their first iOS device.

  4. Steve says:

A pretty good day yesterday. Large yellow equipment started moving, I took a call from the parking lot of my dentist. Dentist found no issues and hasn’t decided to retire yet. Picked up dinner from Taqueria los Hermanos!! And it was a GOOD night for shrimp/corn chowder!! And fish tacos.

The heavy rain this morning is likely interrupting the TdF coverage. Egan Bernal threw in the towel, stating knee and back pain. It had to be something besides fitness.

Kevin had to leave the Tour bubble for a few days (can only have so many people per team in bubble & people more important than him wanted to be there) & now is back, and now has a 2nd set of credentials. He’s like – who wants to get in???? (that looks like me)

  5. barb says:

Paulie – we will relay the message to Steve – I think its starting to get organized.
Of course Bob is camping at Clemson, so we get his primo camper spot if it all comes together.
Sal said Franklin wants to be invited.

    • Thanks.

I had also considered getting a pioneer campsite at Hard Labor, but they have already been claimed for that weekend. Clearly I can set up a tent at Steve’s if that is an option, and unlike someone else will not use the facilities so much as to require septic tank maintenance. 😂
