Well, you can imagine that yesterday wasn’t exactly a five star day in my life. I managed to make a trip to Lowe’s where I wandered around a bit like a zombie, then tried to determine if 10′ rebar could be driven home in the M6, abandoned the rebar idea for the day, and then bought some more soil and manure.

After the bike ride on Sunday I told Betsy that I’d bring her coffee, she’s done the same for me, since I skipped our weekly walk to go to the 5K. Of course when I made the commitment I forgot that caffeine was verboten for me yesterday morning; I improvised by ordering a Grand White (?) from Joe’s Coffee Shop which was warm milk and honey. It really wasn’t too bad.

In my attempt to put matter over mind yesterday I mowed the front “lawn” with my hipster mower, and then tackled some WLF choring. The plan was to tear down a raised bed I built last year, cover the area with plastic, and then plant more potatoes in grow bags that would sit atop the plastic. That plan broke down when I realized that I didn’t have any grow bags left for potato planting. I then proceeded to transplant two pumpkin plants, and seven cucumber plants (two different varieties) ahead of today’s rain. I have a lot of seedlings that are ready for transplanting, but that will have to wait a few days now. I’m nervous that we have one more cold spell headed our way and don’t want to lose plants to it.

My afternoon was mainly spent going to Dunwoody for my penultimate session of mental tests. (I started writing this post during my hour downtime in the session, and finished it when I couldn’t get back to sleep at 1am.) Tomorrow will be my final session, and then I will have earned $550 for my efforts. This will either go toward my $2K tax debt, toward my upcoming auto insurance payment, or toward the “routine” car maintenance I will be scheduling today. What more could a boy ask for?

It turns out that had I wanted to, I could have hashed last night. The start/end of the hash was at H-Mart on Peachtree Industrial, essentially at one o’clock on the 285 clock face, and the survey location is at high noon. However I had neither the clothing nor mental disposition to be around the hash last night.

Given that it is supposed to rain for most of today I guess I will remain at home, indoors. This could give me an opportunity to restart my Swift learning. Or, I could sit on the futon and watch television all day. I suppose another option would be to put the training wheel back onto my road bike and ride the trainer for awhile. Decisions, decisions.

Hope that you are happy, and remaining healthy. I’ll still have to settle for one out of two today; it may be awhile before I complete the set again.

Tuesday Tale of the Tape: 188.0 pounds (-0.8 from last week’s weigh-in); I was seriously hoping for a more uplifting result today.

I solved today’s Wordle on my last attempt; my starter today was TRADE

  1. Barb, here’s hoping that your trip is not interrupted this time. Have a wonderful vacation.

  2. While I knew I was happy, I never realized just how happy I was until Sunday afternoon, when I was no longer happy. I’m trying hard to cope with the changes, but it’s admittedly difficult. Trying to be strong… (image the Apple bicep emoji here)

  3. After seeing a hummingbird yesterday at the feeder I decided that I need to change the sugar water again, I will rehang the feeder tomorrow when the rain has passed.

Sorry you’re having issues. I know you have something going on, but “these times” are hard on lots of folks (me) for no particular reason I can put my finger on…

After returning home, Debbie gave me marching orders that I needed to put teh bush hog on the tractor. There are devices that allow you to simply back into the attachment and make one other connection and you’re good to go. I do not own such devices, but I will be looking into their purchase as it took me a half hour to get connected.

I caught up on 2 Car Talk podcasts whilst doing that and cutting the grass.

Off to Birmingham tomorrow to install equipment, then staying over with Sleazy Rider (Terri) before driving to Huntsville for the race weekend. Now to remember how to do all the things…

Wordle in 3. I just averaged my wordles on this PC and am 3.7.

    • I thought 2020 and 2021 were tough, 2022 has turned out to be worse for me.

Good on ya for choring, and getting the Wordle in three. Obviously I struggled, and have been struggling lately, with no blame on recent events.

Enjoy your time in one of the handful of cities in which I have lived.

One of my fond memories of Huntsville is working a race downtown next to the fire house. We knew about them and they knew about us, but I hear them light up and start rolling and turn towards the course! My field is a couple hundred yards from the intersection, but I start running and blowing my whistle as the firetrucks cross the course. One of the riders later commented he saw me running and blowing and knew it wasn’t good.

  5. I decided to not make a complete mess in the basement by potting up seedlings in the basement. Instead, I set up an impromptu potting station in the carport. I’m going to have to use the leaf blower to rid the carport of pollen soon, so if there is soil on the ground too that won’t be a big deal.

April is a motherfucker with regard to surprise cold snaps. I never plant anything before April 15.

I had a good visit with the orthopedist yesterday. I’m out of the scary space with my arm and can start the first of three levels of PT. I don’t have to wear a sling any more but I still will some when I go out in public. It’s a helpful way to get people to give you space, which I consider helpful since we are still in a pandemic. I did a good job protecting my arm but as planned it was at the expense of my shoulder. I wasn’t scared of PT before but I am now. I’m still weeks away from the scary and ouchy PT though. It’ll start out slow and escalate.

Paulie, I hope you find one or two folks to confide in. I’m not suggesting you write things out here. But do get some support from close friends in private. I tried soldiering through the slings and arrows for decades on my own and it just exacerbates the beat down. Just know that we’re all rooting for you. At various points in life we have to accept a “new normal”, which can be jarringly different than the old normal, but eventually we settle in. Take care and above all be kind to yourself.

Wordle in 5, NYT mini in 45 seconds. I had fat fingers today.

    • Good to hear about your arm. Continued success to you.

It it my intent to stop whining in public, it’s a bad habit of mine. I will attempt to follow your advice. Thank you.

Wordle I had to go to the google – I could not come up with that word. Mini – 4 minutes – I am not on my game today.

All packed except a couple cords & need to find a book to read. Not like we have any books in this house to pick from. Only 1 big checked bag, I think it weights 49.5 lbs. Or at least we hope. Don’t want to have to drag too much around Barcelona trying to get from the bus to the hotel.

  7. Oh boy, hearing thunder and the rain is about to arrive. My Mac had to go into Recovery Mode in order to install the latest OS point release. Hopefully the update will be successful before the rain arrives so that I can be comfortable unplugging it from the wall.

  8. I am supposed to have grow bags I ordered for the potatoes delivered today. We’ll see…

  9. Steve says:

I just glanced out the window here in the orifice and it was damn dark!

Since I saw the sun coming up at 07:30, I was a little surprised..

  10. It’s almost shocking how quickly I can confuse myself about what seedling is what. I have been making an effort to keep everything straight, but have let myself down a wee little bit. Oh well WLF 2022 will have some surprises in store.

  11. Barb says:

its been crazy weather – but my flight still says on time.
I’m going to be annoyed if we are delayed much.
Almost time to sign off & head to the airport.
I’ll try to update from my wifi hotel room in Barcelona.
