The bitter end, or the end of bitter? My “Sliding Doors” moment awaits as April draws to a close.

I’m Trying…

Yesterday was an incredibly productive day. As I mentioned I took recycling to CHaRM, went to Dollar Tree, went to Target/CVS, and then drove to REI to pick up my new cycling computer. I also erected my small tent in the backyard and sprayed water repellent on the rain fly, and then opened up the frame for a pop up sans cover that I claimed from my neighbor’s curb.

The neighbor, who has moved, had a small farm too, and I have been claiming a lot of items, fencing and such, from their curb as they have cleaned house. The pop up may very well become a netted fruit cage in which I grow blackberries and raspberries. I have the space in WLF, but not sure that I have the necessary hours of sunshine due to surrounding trees.

After sitting around for awhile I drove to Decatur and did the CVS group ride. Four classifies as a group, right? Two’s a couple, Three’s one too many, and Four’s a group. Isn’t that how that goes? Okay there were really eight riders, but only four of us in the “A” group who made an incredibly circuitous eighteen-mile route around Midtown and back at nearly a 15mph pace. Afterward three of us — Stan, myself, and another guy — sat in the parking lot and drank a couple (2) beers and ate some nicely salted peanuts; You can take me out of the hash, but you cannot take the hasher out of me.

I was home around 9:30pm where I proceeded to eat some egg salad for a very later “dinner” before turning into bed.

Today will be another busy day. This morning I will dedicate myself to farm choring, as well as packing up my small tent. This afternoon I’m meeting my old friends at The Po Boy Shop. The Po Boy Shop has supplanted Benchwarmers as our “go to” place since there favorite bartender has moved to it.

Tomorrow I will be doing my normal Betsy walk in the morning, and the attending my annual Georgia Tech baseball game with my buddy Hank. The baseball game starts at 4:00pm, so Hank and I will probably meet up at Cypress Street Pint and Plate beforehand. It will feel like 2019 all over again. It’s crazy to think of the numerous places I have been since at least 2020.

On Sunday I am going to ride. My plan is to do at least fifty miles, solo. I want to have my new cycling computer installed by then with a route downloaded to it, and I am trying to figure out if I will ride Silver Comet, Silk Sheets, or drive up to Sosobee Cycling Park and do the Bud Plant 60. By BRAG I plan to be in incredible shape, not because I will need to be in order to ride BRAG, but because I need to be for my self confidence. I am old and will never look like a young person again, but I can counteract that a wee little bit if I am svelte.

I am trying to end the bitter.

Have a great weekend, and remain healthy.

I solved today’s Wordle in two attempts; my starter today was SHAFT. I feel as if I have gotten the shift this month, and it has finally paid off for Wordle.

  1. NYT Mini Crossword in 1:39.
    WP Mini Crossword in 1:54.

Not a speedy day for me, but that’s fine.

  2. Barb says:

Shaft – good start word – I got it in 2 too!
    NYT Mini – I had 1 letter wrong & couldn’t figure out what I’ve done – over 5 minutes.
never tried the WP Mini – that was a little better – 3:41.
Can you tell I’ve never really done crosswords? I get too frustrated to stick with them.

We actually went & rode last night – from Johnson Ferry & Lower Roswell – down along the river. There’s a bike lane the whole way. They finally reopened the bridge at Timber Ridge so we could do this ride again. 18 miles. Next time we will add the hills of Martins Landing and maybe some other roads. Paulie – the Bike Roswell routes are good training for BRAG – plenty of hills.

    • Good to know Barb. Thanks!

      • Barb says:

And as far as I can tell, they are still pretty well marked on the roads, but looking at the map route would be a good idea before riding There is the GA400 ride marks too, I’m sure you can modify that route. (skipping the 400 part)

Barb, click the life ring icon to choose a level of help from the menu. There’s a tipping point with crosswords where you have to do a certain number of them before they get easier. The help options get you there faster. It doesn’t do you any good to get stuck and give up.

I don’t remember my stats for today, life is a bit intense right now.

Already dressed in my moto togs and about to hit the road towards day 2 of BRAG. I thought about starting from Columbus, but not today. If I’m feeling frisky, I might ride it backwards later.

I wasn’t feeling very chipper after lunch yesterday and came home and crashed. Still not feeling great, so all these plans may be for naught.

My plan for later is to head to George’s to see Head Eunuch and Can’t Say No. I also need to hit REI at some point this weekend.

LMK if you come south to ride. I may not be up for fifty, but I’ll do what I can.

  4. Mid morning break. Mowed front lawn, and making progress in WLF.

Thumb bugging me a bit, probably from overuse.

    • Showered and have eaten lunch, more leftover tacos.

Have turned on Bundesliga 2 game, which unfortunately has no audio, and will relax until I head to the Po Boy Shop around 2:30pm.

    • Successful morning in WLF.
      – cleaned up some dead/over plants
      – sowed some beer seeds
      – transplanted some bean and zucchini seedlings
      – weeded and watered

also packed up my small tent

Sitting in Perry having lunch. Your day 2 BRAG is nice, quite shady. A couple hills early, then just rolling. Only a couple parts with crappy pavement.

Started with the cooler weather jacket, but brought the summer jacket for the ride home.

    Barb, see you this evening.

  6. Barb says:

Got a friend to meet me at Chicken Salad Chick for lunch. I was in the mood for chicken salad, and I’m too lazy to make it myself. And got some pimento cheese too.

  7. Fucking Werder Bremen screwed themselves again. Dangen!
