This heat is as brutal as the stock market…

Trying to figure out how a nearly 57 year old man, who is admittedly not the best looking thing around, can meet a single woman between 45-57, who likes beer/breweries, road cycling, (car) camping, is not a hasher (since I am on hiatus), listens to indie rock and attends small venue concerts, doesn’t have/want tattoos nor children, is not religious, and with whom I have a mutual physical attraction. Geographic Desirability is a huge bonus. I know that there are women like this out there, but they are few and very far between.

See my dilemma now?

I really hate my current situation, am not enjoying living like this again, and don’t know how I am going to change it.

Understand why I am depressed?

Fear not, you won’t get any of this drivel next week. Follow me on Strava (or maybe Instagram) to find out where I am, and what I am doing. This space will only have my Wordle updates, assuming that I have cell service.

I solved today’s Wordle in three attempts; my starter today was TRADE

  1. NYT Mini Crossword in 42 seconds, mind and fingers not fully functioning this morning.

Gave up on Heardle after one second because I knew that I wouldn’t know the song or artist. Turns out I have heard of this song (as you most likely have), but let’s just say that it’s not a genre to which I listen.

1:28 on Mini- the across clues didn’t come to me, but the downs did- so I did better than I thought I would.

And – Wordle in 3 – using Paulie’s start word – did we use the same 2nd word? HMMM

It was a long hot day yesterday. My riding class was worth my time and I only embarrassed myself once (dropping the bike). Took home some nuggets to practice and will certainly do that.

I was amazed I actually got some sleep in the heat. Nothing more than me laying on the mattress. About 0500 I found my light blanket and threw it over me.

I have new neighbors who arrived at almost midnight. I know this as they drove their tent staked with a hammer about 3 feet from my head! Nice folks… talkers!

On todays itinerary is breakfast, laundry, the mother ship of Bass Pro Shops and some vendor time. One of the vendors will custom build you a seat from your seat pan on site! The factory seats are shite. Thinking about it.

Where are you going on your trip next week?

  3. Barb says:

ok – “meet a single woman between 45-57” – I think you could go higher in age (I’m almost 4 years older than Allan). Don’t let age limit you there.

I’d say hit up the different road rides around town. Ask Katherine about her groups, she rides with plenty of women. Roswell has a couple group rides, and you are fast enough, I know you could hang with most of them & but do the no drop groups, gives you time to make a little small talk. (avoid the A groups, those guys tend to be a$$holes)

    • David says:

I second what Barb said! And seriously, lose the petulant self-entitlement. It’s off-putting and and is keeping you in your own way. You’ve gotta love yourself first, just the way you are, before anyone else is going to have any interest. Shitty attitudes seep out of one’s pores, and no one wants any part of that.

    • I could loosen my constraints, but at my age…

It has been my experience that women at group rides are generally attached to one of the males at the ride.

I have tried to love myself only to be beaten down by reality. In the early 2000s I went on a lot of first dates because the women I went out with were looking for someone better looking than me and refused my offer of a second date. At some point you have to wonder if you are wrong, and they are right.

      • Barb says:

Maybe, maybe not on the group ride people. Or, they have a friend, who knows? It will keep you riding, and meeting some new people. Better than wallowing at home…….

      • David says:

        A) It’s not fair to measure your current self against your past self. B) Anyone you connect with at this age is going to have baggage and aspects that you won’t like. There are women that will have enough good that outweighs anything you might take umbrage with, such as tattoos. I’m not into tattoos either, but folks that have them often are pretty secure within themselves, and that’s the kind of person you want.

Keep going in therapy and figure out how to lighten your emotional load. You were dating the wrong women if they were only interested in your looks.

    • Jenka says:

And further to what David was saying, therapy and meds will actually help a lot with dating.

  4. Bob says:

Have a good trip next week Paulie, hope you find what you are looking for.

  5. Home again and showered after riding 43 miles to Stone Mountain and back. I added mileage by looping around all roads in the park, and would have rounded up to 45 but by the time I got home I was out of water and motivation.

  6. My aufomatic watering scheme worked flawlessly this morning. I will keep my fingers crossed that it will continue to do so in my absence.

  7. Jenka says:

Yesterday’s Wordle in 3 using PROUD.

Birthday dinner at Sotto Sotto was magnificent!

  8. Barb says:

Glad I wasn’t at either of the big concerts last night – the Robert Plant & Allison Krauss show only got 4 songs in before it monsooned at Chastain. At least that one will be rescheduled.

The Joan Jett/Poison/Motley Crue/Def Leppard show at Truist Park I don’t think had too many delays, but it was hotter than hell, then rained & the temp dropped dramatically. I could hear the bass over here at my house, not sure if it was Motley Crue or Def Leppard.

  9. Steve says:

Pulled the trigger on custom ear plugs/ headphones. You know the stuff the dentist uses to take a mold of your mouth? Imagine that in your ears! The picture is too funny.

Watched a little of the indoor ADV (offroad) course. Didn’t look too difficult to me, but neither did those F’ing cones yesterday.

Hiding out in the AC of the exhibition hall. I’m not the only one.

  10. Drinking at Po Boy Shop again. Going to have to pick tonight.
