I mowed the lawn yesterday afternoon? Seems as if I have been doing that once a week this summer. Now if I could only start working toward getting the major shit in my life fixed.

I solved today’s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was IDOLS

Tuesday Tale of the Tape: 185.8 pounds (+0.4 from last week’s weigh-in); rats, I was hoping to be closer to 180 by this week.

  1. NYT Mini Crossword in 36 seconds.

Heardle fail. Not that it mattered in the end, but the first second on my iPad was complete silence!

    • David says:

Heardle in 3! Starting with PARTY. Ended with “what would Paulie type here?” 😉 😉 🙂

NYT Mini in 33 seconds. No chance in hell on Heardle (the blank first second is aways so rude) but the 70s Heardle is a total gimme. I knew the band and not the song for 80s Heardle, Barb will probably get it in 1 second. Whiffed the 90s, 00’s in 1 second.

I’m getting on a plane tomorrow for the first time since the pandemic. I’m prepared for a shitshow on multiple levels. I’m speaking at a conference in Indiana on Thursday, and then bolting on a couple of days in Chicago.

      • Barb says:

wordle is 4, I used Paul’s 1st word, David’s as my 2nd word, had two guesses for the 3rd word using David’s hint, guessed the wrong one. 😉

      • 70s was a slam dunk
80s I thought that I knew and talked myself out of the right answer
        90s I did not attempt

Oh yes, I wish I had take that strategy today. 😉

I’ve not flown since 2018? 2019? From what I understand it’s not as bad as it could be.

        • David says:

Here’s hoping. Watch this space for details. As long as I get to Indiana it’ll be all good no matter what. I’m flying back out of Chicago, and I’m not at all worried about finding my way back.

      • Barb says:

70s – yep -that was too easy. 80s – I should have known it, but wasn’t a huge fan, so it took until the end. 90s – nope, 00s – nope.

David- if you have a direct flight, and your flight is happening, you should be ok. If you have to check a bag, Delta has this facial recognition thing now that you check in down at the lower level (where all the construction is, there was NO ONE there, it took me literally 1 minute last time.) TSA is TSA, but the line moves really well, even if it seems really long.

        • David says:

I never, ever check a bag domestically. I have TSA Precheck, so in the past that has helped some. And yes, I only ever book direct flights domestically too. Thanks for the advice!

I’m flying up via Delta to Indianapolis, back via Southwest out of Midway, which has the highest number of flight delays in the country. Worst case it’s an 8 hour drive, I’ll get there one way or another. And I’ll get back, there’ll be scads of options.

  2. Sal says:

My plan was to cut grass today. But looks like rain most of the day. Have to come up with plan B. Just glad to have my power back on.

    • Oh, that sucks that your power went out. Glad it’s back for you.

As soon as I went outside yesterday afternoon the sky went gray and I felt a few drops. I hustled to get my modest front lawn cut, and didn’t do the best job I have ever done in doing so.

I’m hoping the rain peters out this morning so that I can do the Melton’s bike ride tonight.

  3. Steve says:

It’s already been a long day- Ollie was playing hide and seek when I wanted to leave to go to work. I was afraid he actually might have been hurt, as he and George got at it pretty hard. No, he was just hiding- MF!

Then when I need to stop for gas, the pumps aren’t working. The first reads my card but doesn’t provide gas. The second doesn’t read my card and is freaking- I finally go inside so the clerk can turn on the pump and we still can get it to work. I finally go to a different station without issue. And di I mention it was pouring rain!!

18 miles last night- almost in the dark. I waited for it to cool off, which it never really did. Wordle in 4 and should have been 3.

    • David says:

Some days are just snake-bit. Hang in there.

    • Barb says:

      good times this morning Steve.
Allan had the moto all set up in front of the car to take this morning, we joked last night, it only rains in the afternoons…….. so, he had to do some rearranging.

I do not know what is in the air the past couple days, but my allergies are acting up. My eyes are super itchy. It makes me very annoyed.

  4. Stupid new bump on my chin keeps getting sliced opened and bleeding when I shave now. I may have to let the beard grow back to save my blood!

    • David says:

I have a mole that I would nick periodically back when I shaved with a razor. It is the worst. The harder you try to miss the bump, the more likely that you’ll hit it. And my spot would sometimes bleed for 30 minutes or more.

  5. As the skies keeps getting dark and rain looks likely I am glad I pushed myself to get the lawn mowed yesterday.

    • Barb says:

its so dark in my house when its rainy, I feel like I should turn on more lights. But, I’m not in those rooms, but it is so dark.

  6. Steve says:

There was a lot of excited French coming over Radio Tour a little while ago, but BROKEN CHAIN was definitely in English! Ow, that had to smart.

  7. Considered going to buy a new pair of pants today. However, I just ate a large lunch and trying on pants doesn’t sound very appealing.

    • Barb says:

depends on what sort of pants you are shopping for.

BTW – how’s your mom doing?

      • Cargo pants, mostly to be used for yard work — more on this Thursday…

She’s doing the best she can. As much as she hates it she will remain at rehab for at least another week. For those out of the loop, she fell and broke a hip and hurt her shoulder a couple of weeks ago; that’s been my family drama. She had surgery on the hip, but they are trying to let the shoulder heal on its own.

Hope the Iowa gang is hanging in there.

        • Steve says:

OK, just so you know, this isn’t family drama. Family drama is arguments in front of the neighbors and calling the cops!

Mom falling and breaking her hip is bad news and I’m very sorry to hear of it, as I know it will impact her bingo playing! I hope she’s able to get back to her winning ways.

          • Fair point, but I haven’t told the whole story, just enough to answer Barb and clarify why Barb asked for the rest of you.

She’s a stubborn person, she will get through this.

          • David says:

Well, my mother, who I’m on perpetual non-speaking terms with, fell and broke her femur and is in rehab.

All the best to your mother in her recovery. I can attest it’s not fun working one’s way back from a broken bone. I’m sure at their respective ages it’s even less fun.

  8. Steve says:

    I sure hope she does!

(and the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree!)

  9. This is going to sound weird, but I finally earned enough money in Target gift cards via online survey answering to pay for a pair of cargo pants. Tomorrow when I am out and about I will swing by a Target and try some on with my fingers crossed.

  10. Well piss, Mother Nature is stealing my plan to do a bike ride tonight.
