I solved today’s Wordle in three attempts; my starter today was GLARE

Tuesday Tale of the Tape: 186.6 pounds (+0.8 since last week’s weigh-in); ugh. Must start working toward 180, not away from it, but injured ankle won’t help with this…

  1. NYT Mini Crossword in 45 seconds.

    Heardle within the first second.

  2. Lost four more sizable green tomatoes to critters. 🙁

Tearing out a bunch of volunteer Cherry tomato plants that are not producing and dying.

    • Barb says:

I had a decent looking sizeable tomato that decided to rot on the vine…….

The cherry volunteers you gave me have some green tomatoes – not a ton, but some. Hoping the squirrels or whatever critters leave them alone.

Wordle in 6 starting with GRACE and never had a letter in a wrong position! WTF, O?
Mini in under 2 and Heardle in 2.

The days of waking up sore because of a bad mattress are hopefully ending. A new mattress and amusement park ride (raises and lowers the bed) to be delivered Thursday. I know Debbie is looking forward to it. The sales woman was patient with us as we had lots of questions and it was probably good we were the only people in the store. Took our time and hopefully made the right choice.

If you haven’t read and listened to the Joni Mitchell story on NPR from yesterday, you should. I didn’t realize she had suffered from a brain aneurism and that was her first concert in 20 years. Certainly not in great voice, it was still an emotional show.

I thought GCN was going to cover the ladies TdF, but doesn’t appear so… foo.

Yesterday afternoon I knocked out two emissions tests and darkened the door briefly at the Glenwood Kroger to use the tag ATM machine. Surprisingly no late fee, I think it was because my birthday was on Sunday.

The wayward laptop is in an apartment building in Carver Homes that had two daylight shootings last month.

Wordle fail starting with RELAX. I had the last four letters in place by my fourth try but went down in flames. NYT Mini in 46 seconds, Heardle in 1 second, along with 70s and 80s.

In 30 minutes I have my final PT session. I’ve come a long way since shattering my arm in February. I don’t even think I noticed my arm in Chicago despite hauling my backpack and kayaking on the Chicago River. I even put a cake stand back up in a high cabinet. I could just barely do it, but even a couple weeks ago that would have been out of the question.

Oh, Paulie, I realized which trail you walked at Fort Mountain. I walk that one too every time I go. It’s peaceful. I didn’t see this with my eyes but apparently a mother bear and cub made an appearance when I walked that trail last month.

    • Barb says:

Question – since you know where the laptop is – can’t you ask the cops to go retrieve it? I have no idea, jut wondering.

      • David says:

Atlanta cops don’t even show up to take accident reports any more, but I’ll do some research on that. It’s an apartment building, which makes it a bit trickier than just a house. Hopefully they’ll just take me up on my offer on the lock screen to get a reward. I’m not inclined to to go far on this because my son tends to learn best when consequences are involved. Rescuing him from this self-inflicted situation will diminish the lesson, but I’m going to let it play out a little more.

    • One of the park workers was cleaning up trash that idiot campers by the “beach” left next to the bear-proof trash cans. The bears had their own party with the trash.

      • David says:

Yes, that beach was slam-packed with people last month. For the record, I did struggle to get the bear-proof can open myself, so maybe it was just a bridge too far for someone.

    • Jenka says:

You have until the end of your birthday month to renew your tag, so the late fee would start August 1.

      • David says:

Ah, good to know. I’ll just keep thinking the deadline is my birthday just to be safe. At least I remembered the day after.

  5. WordPress very slow sending me comment email today, so forgive my lag.

  6. In from a few hours of humid choring in WLF. I am mostly in frustrated cleanup mode thanks to critters and plant deaths. Still have some baseball-sized eggplant that I intend to harvest for tomorrow. Lunch maybe sautéed okra with lentils? Obviously I am trying to be creative with okra since I am not prepared to pickle it, nor do I know how to freeze it.

  7. “Take time to enjoy nature!” was the saying on the stick of the Johnny Pops watermelon popsicle I just ate. I suppose WLF is nature? I certainly enjoyed nature for a little while yesterday.

  8. Jenka says:

Worked from home yesterday and since we don’t have Finn for a couple of days it was sooooooo quiet. Didn’t get to Wordle yesterday, I barely managed to get Duolingo done.

  9. Barb says:

Heardle – wasn’t trying – after 2 seconds – just skipped to the end, should have gone 3 seconds.
70s- right away- but thought that was a very early 80s song
80s – took me a few seconds – I should have known it sooner.

  10. Whew, that was a typical Paulie lunch…

In the InstantPot I cooked brown lentils with garlic cloves.
In a pan I sautéed a bunch of okra with an onion and cubanelle pepper.
I combined the two and ate from a bowl.

With that I ate some garlic olive bread I made from Pillsbury pizza crust last night, and an ear of corn from a pack that I have in the refrigerator.

I doubt that there is another person who would be so screwy to make a meal like this.

I hope that I can ride tonight to work off a little of that food.

  11. Still waiting for a shipping confirm on the poly tunnel order I placed at Amazon the other day, the one with the complicated payment. I’m not so sure it’s going to happen at this point.

Especially after losing 80% (four out of five) of the tomatoes I was planning on eating soon, no poly tunnel, no tomatoes plants next year.

  12. Steve says:

In reading about the record rainfall in St. Louis, I was a bit worried about RAGBRAI, but they seemed to have dodged the bullet. Stayed well south.
