2023-01-02

Happy 2023. I hope this year is far better for me than last year was.

I don’t make resolutions, but I do set goals (remember the year I vowed to eat more pancakes?) So, here are my goals for this year:

– Return to being mostly vegetarian. Since I stopped hanging out with a certain vegan/vegetarian I have wandered back into being more of a carnivore, and I don’t think my waistline nor cardiac system appreciates that.
– Lose at least twenty pounds, more than ten of which have returned in recent months. See above, my 2023 starting weight was 198.2 pounds.
– Earn some money in the form of a salary. The stock market’s decline combined with my spending habits and rising costs has made this inevitable.
– Downsize, downsize, downsize. At my age the accumulation of “things” is nonsensical. (Of course Saturday I had to convert $170 in Curion money before it expired; I turned it into Amazon credit, so I will be buying some things…)
– Reach out for help. I have to admit that I can’t do everything by myself any longer, and if I have learned anything on my Florida trips is that it only gets harder with each passing year.
– On any day possible (read “when I am home”) I will read a short story from a book called Studies In The Short Story, a book that has been in my possession for at least twenty years.

I stayed at home Saturday night, watching all episodes of the first season of “Ted Lasso”, except for the one in the middle through which I apparently slept.

The BRAG route has been announced — Clayton to Augusta. On the first day it traces most of the route in Clayton around Lake Burton that I rode in June.

Here’s to hoping that this year I never consider killing myself.

I laughed when yesterday’s Wordle answer turned out to be WHINE. I solved today’s Wordle in three attempts; my starter today was SPORT

  1. Not only does “Ted Lasso” make fun on the NY Jets, it provided the quote which aptly fits NY Jets — “The hope that kills you”. The Jets, in losing their fifth consecutive game, have once again been eliminated from the NFL playoffs.

I love Ted Lasso so much. I’ve watched it all the way through twice and will soon watch it a third time.

Glory, hallelujah on your goal of reaching out for help. We all need each other. Soldiering on by one’s self is crazy-making, as I can personally attest.

The year will be what you make of it. I feel like I crammed five years of living into 2022. I repositioned myself on several fronts and look forward to what 2023 holds.

I closed out 2022 with a 10 mile Beltline ride, and started 2023 with a 12 mile ride on the Roswell greenway. I also walked 3 miles yesterday. It felt really good to get out and move. I am going to keep that going.

    • Good on ya! I had a really good 4.5 mile walk yesterday when the sun came out. It was fantastic.

As you may recall I had a hard time watching Ted Lasso last summer. It was sadder than I could handle at the time. Scars are starting to harden, I even signed up for Spring Tune Up and understand I may have to be around someone I have cut out of my life.

      • David says:

Yes, I can totally see that about Ted Lasso.

I just finished 9.5 miles on my bike with a speed run down the Beltline (taking advantage of the slight downhill) and a slower return. I got rained on for a few blocks and a squirrel almost jumped into my front wheel but thankfully for both of us he/she thought better of it.

Oh, Wordle in 4. Started with CRANE. Used SPORT as my second word. Coulda had it in 3 but for one letter.

And yes, Paulie, I did chuckle at WHINE yesterday. 🙂

      Mini in 45.

I fell about a month behind on NYT crosswords but I’ve caught up. At last check I’ve completed 1,876 of the full NYT crosswords. That doesn’t count Minis.

  3. Out doing some manual WLF labor. Went to Lowe’s this morning and bought compost and something I am going to trial this year. More on that when I plant them in a few months time.

  4. Steve Brady says:

My very long blog post was eaten by the server error.

Paulie, it’s good for you to recognize the need for help. It has been far too long you have tortured yourself.Time to move on.

  5. Short day in WLF, just not many chores to accomplish this time of year. I did spread some compost into a few beds, and had a surprise when I harvested eight potatoes, two of which are a decent size as well! I will cut into them tomorrow and eat them in a meal if the frost didn’t mess with their innards.

Heading to Treat Your Feet in Doraville. Allan is getting a foot masssge too! Meeting some friends for a birthday thing.

  7. Barb says:

Went to Mamak Vegan Kitchen for lunch after the foot massages. Food was much better than we expected.
