Late yesterday while charging my bike equipment for the ride I discovered that my Wahoo ELMNT computer, the one I bought this time last year, has a crack across its entire screen. I’ve tried so hard to protect this expensive purchase that I keep the computer into a small satchel so that I don’t scratch the screen. This crack must have happened since Tuesday, though I have no idea how. The only possible explanation is that on Wednesday morning when I dropped the lights that I failed to put into the bag in which I keep all of my bicycle electronics onto that bag, the items dropped hit the Wahoo screen and cracked it. It’s implausible, but just the weird sort of shit that would happen to me. For now I have put clear tape over the crack and will see how much of a waterproof solution this provides. I know deep down that I will eventually be spending more money on a new bike computer. What a bummer.

The ride turned out to be just Stan and me, so we rode from East Atlanta to Piedmont Park and picked up our Thursday night CVS route there. As you can imagine the Beltline was crowded, and Stan’s ability to maneuver through the crowds is much better than mine, so we separated for awhile, eventually teaming up again at the Botanical Gardens.

I solved today’s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was SLANT. Once again I nearly gave away today’s answer by publishing it instead of the word I used as the starter.

  1. If I could stop putting so many calories into my mouth I’d probably be well on my was to losing some weight. Today is laundry day, and my bag of exercise clothes is the most full thanks to the amount of riding I have done in the last three weeks.

Wordle in 3 starting with CRATE. Mini in 52.

Last night I completed my 2,000th NYT crossword. I started doing crosswords a few months before COVID hit. They very much helped me keep my sanity during the pandemic. Onward to 3,000!

I purposefully have very little in the way of plans this weekend. I did buy some grape tomato plants, basil, and flowers that I’ll be planting. I never plant anything until after April 15.

    • Nice. I will be making a Lowe’s stop post Waschsalon and I addition to the other items on my list will pick up a couple of plants to fill the gap created by killing transplants and poor germination.

Mini in 1:05 – thought I had a chance to be under 1 minute, but…… no check luck

      • David says:

You came close! There were some squirrelly clues. I can knock out a straight-forward Mini in under 30 seconds. It definitely slows me down when they get cutesy with the clues.

wordl in 4 using WORDY. Still calling for rain on Saturday in Helen but hoping that changes between now and tomorrow morning. Heading up shortly to get the trails marked and the start/finish area set up for tomorrow’s Helenback Races. Sorry about your bike computer Paulie. It’s always something. I haven’t planted anything yet in my garden. Maybe next week. Really just haven’t had the time and the weather hasn’t been conducive. My friend Cathy is coming down this week-end and we will plan on doing the Sunday Hash. Hope everyone has a great week-end.

Wordle in 5- and glad to get it done as I was running out of options.

17 miles last night. Felt a lot longer. The county has been working on our road and another I regularly ride. Their work makes them almost impassable on a bike, as they don’t pack the gravel down, they just spread it. A little rain will help. I guess I’ll put the road bike in the car and go ride at some point this weekend.

Nothing planned for the weekend. A friend from DC is chief for most of Speedweek, which starts in Athens tomorrow. I may go down to Lagrange Sunday to say hi. I’m still annoyed I made plans to work most of the races and then got jilted. I did get assigned to work the UCI Para World Cup event in Huntsville on Memorial day weekend, which should be fun.

Got another 20 miles in last night, going to try and be in better shape for BRAG. I’m getting too old to ride myself in to shape that week.

Have you checked in to one of those U Break I Fix places for your Wahoo? They fix all sorts of devices and may be able to replace your screen. https://www.ubreakifix.com/

This has been a busy week, I’m really glad it’s Friday. Through the miracle of shifting custody schedules due to travel on both sides we don’t have a kid again this weekend, so we will actually get to relax. We have tickets to the Braves game on Sunday; I’m looking forward to my first game of the season!

    • Barb says:

Do you park at Kevin’s office when you go to games? (isn’t he at the Galleria?)
Do you go early & have a drink before the game?

      • Jenka says:

He’s a little further down Cobb Parkway from Galleria. Still pretty close, but we pay out the ass for Red Deck because we’re totally fucking bougie and lazy. It’s actually faster to walk there from his office than it is to drive because of the traffic, but it’s a miserable walk on the highway.

We do like to go early, grab a Peroni from Antico, walk around and people watch. Sometimes we get an H&F burger before going inside.

  7. Barb says:

Had planned to go out to dinner with the in-laws last night (belated birthday dinner for TJ). No one would decide on a restaurant, and I get tired of picking. So, the weather was so nice, we decided to just grill some steaks & hang on the deck.

  8. Back from laundry, Lowe’s, and Kroger. Huh, should have gone to Lidl for the alliteration.

  9. steve says:

I still don’t think I’ve been in a Lidl. Much different than Aldi?

    • Barb says:

a little more grocery store ish – I like it – it just isn’t as convenient to my house so I rarely go.

      • Same. Not sure if the prices are as good as Aldi’s but it’s not an apple-to-apple comparison.

      • steve says:

Our Aldi is on the Newnan 4 lane (6 lane?) which we try to avoid. We’d have to pass both Publix and Kroger to get there. Lately, we’ve been doing most of our shopping at the new Publix in Senoia, which is only near the feedstore in Harralson.

    • David says:

In my view Lidl is much better organized than Aldi. In an Aldi I feel like I’m stepping through a warehouse that a tornado ran through. Lidl is much better organized. Plus you don’t have to do bullshit like pay money to use a cart (I know you get your quarter back, but I cannot remember the last time I had a physical quarter in my possession). So, I like Lidl, and I avoid Aldi like the plague. I do think Aldi is cheaper, if that’s a criteria.

  10. Debbie says:

Wordle in 4 starting with CHAMP.

I have a job if the pay is sufficient. I’ll be working Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. I know and like many of the folks that work there as well as a number of the clients. It sounds like it’s crazy fast-paced which will the day fly by. Most importantly it gets me out of the house and around people so I don’t go feral. I really wanted to do grocery store checkout, but this works, too. Anything that ends when I leave sounds good to me. All of my career my work has bled into my headspace nonstop.

    Happy Friday!

    • Congrats, hope the gig is everything you hope it to be.

    • Barb says:

Debbie – it sounds like something you would enjoy – so, what the hell, do it for a while & if it isn’t look for another job then.
I agree on the grocery store checkout – I was a cashier back on High school & some in college – it wasn’t a bad gig. (except, it really doesn’t pay all that well)

    • Jenka says:

I would love to get a mindless data entry job that is WFH. (Does data entry even exist anymore in this born-digital world?)

    • David says:

I knew you’d be a shoo-in, I hope that they treat you right on the pay. If you take the job you’ll definitely sleep well at night!

  11. Lunch of WLF salad required a thorough washing of the lettuce as some insects have decided it’s a great place to live. You know what, they are right!

The salad contains WLF lettuce, carrots, and radishes. 🙂 The vegetables were topped with a fake spicy chicken patty and some blue cheese dressing. 😀

  12. Jenka says:

Is it time to go home yet? Fuuuck.
