Hope everyone is having a good long weekend, and that you aren’t working today leading up to tomorrow’s Independence Day holiday. I’ve been beating the heat by working WLF in the morning and then sitting in air conditioned bars the rest of the day. Well, that’s only slightly accurate because I have also spend an inordinate amount of time watching the first two stages of the Tour de France.

This morning I will go into baking mode in an attempt to use some of the abundant yellow squash, zucchini, and green tomatoes in the house. My clever plan to protect some of the larger green tomatoes on the vine by putting mesh bags around them failed miserably. Yesterday I discovered that whatever tomato loving critters that have been visiting WLF simply ate the tomatoes, leaving the hollowed shells of them in the mesh bags. Incredible.

I solved today’s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was CLEAR. I really thought that today’s answer had been used previously, so I went for something else on my third guess and was disappointed.

  1. Green tomato bread (think “zucchini bread”) baked, but not sampled yet. Next into the oven is a yellow squash and zucchini casserole. I still have a ton of squash, zucchini, and tomatoes to use up.

Unfortunately I do have to work today but only 9:30-2:30. Then I have to pack up the beer coolers and get my car down to Piedmont Park for tomorrow’s Peachtree Road Race. Going to be hot and humid for sure but always a fun day. Got pushed back to time group B this year. Signs of getting old and slow. Worked on Saturday and did the Black Sheep Hash yesterday. Thanks to Barb for driving. It was very hot but a good trail. Picked up tomatoes on the way home….very tasty indeed. Y’all have a fun and safe 4th of July. My mom’s birthday is tomorrow. She’ll be 89.

  3. Forgot to mention that I will be celebrating my 4th today by going over a buddy’s house to eat bbq.

No Painful Member tonight, nor Peachtree festivities for me tomorrow. Just not in the cards for me still…

  4. Funny incident yesterday when the bartender at The Righteous Room spoke German and was able to translate my last name, which I assume you all know by this time.

    • Barb says:

we know your last name – but what does it translate to? (if you’ve told me, I forgot)

      • A Nuß/Nuss is a nut and “lein” is one of two German diminutive suffixes. Sometimes when the diminutive is constructed an umlaut is added, so my last name, Nüßlein (Americanized to Nuesslein), translates to “small nut”.

        • Sally says:

          hahaha

        • Barb says:

and that goes along with Wee Little Bit without anyone knowing this – wasn’t it Little Easy that started your naming?

          • Yep!

When I got named it was because Little Easy yelled out that he only knew a “wee little bit” about me. There was a German guy there that night and I told Easy he should have asked that guy to what my last name translated, but he shrugged his shoulders and laughed and said “Wee Little Bit” was bad enough. 🙂

Roadtrip home was long – about 6 hours on Friday (with a stop for some dinner in Hannibal, MO) and 8 hours on Saturday – road construction on I-57 in IL was a pain, traffic going thru Nashville & Chattanooga was horrible.
Good to be back sleeping in my own bed, I slept 9 hours Saturday night- that never happens.

Black Sheep was HOT, I chose to do a shorter walker explore the area trail, there’s a nice Wolf Creek Ampitheater that had the gate opened – so we checked it out.

Came home & rehydrated (with water) and finally started watching Queen Charlotte (on Netflix, a prequel to the Bridgerton show)

    Wordle in 4.

A fairly packed Fred (the venue in PTC) for Melissa Carlyle Saturday night. We expected rain but it never showed. She managed to get the crowd on its feet, but it was for the last 4 songs.

Last night was a house concert by a friends band that trying to get some gigs again after some time off. They sounded as good as ever and we finally called it when the light rain threatened to be heavy.

Tonight is the hunt gathering with dinner and fireworks. Why horse people would shoot fireworks is beyond me. Our horses seemed unphased by the ones last night, nor were the dogs bothered.

    Off to mow pastures…

Kevin (& Michelle) did a Facebook Live thing yesterday recapping a lot of their trip.
They talked at their dinner table to the phone for almost 3 hours. I’m listening to it today. Its pretty funny. They are on day 42 or something like that.

BTW – in the BRAG email – they have a Bruges to Amsterdam bikes & barge trip next year August 2024. It sounds like something fun we may really do. We are seriously considering it. Anyone interested?

  8. Steve says:

The good news is I found Tanner’s fly mask. The bad news is it was one mower pass too late, now in 4 pieces. But the front pasture is mowed.

  9. Steve says:

And Asshole and his wife were set to fly to Paris Saturday, but the flight was 30 seats overbooked. The auction started and they took the offer when it got to $4k EACH and a hotel night. Wow. Left Sunday with an upgraded seat!
