2023-11-29

As has seem to be the norm these days I did not get a ton done yesterday. The day simply slipped by before I knew it. I managed to accomplish a little in WLF, and made three meals for myself, but not much else.

Today I am braving the cold temperatures in order to do laundry, and a bit of grocery shopping. I want/ need to do more work in WLF in order to prep for the now much less than six inches of rain predicted for the weekend.

This afternoon I will pick the health plan I will have for 2024, and figure out how to transition from the one I currently have to the new one seamlessly. Wish me luck.

It’s my turn to bring food to Betsy’s and I have no idea what I want to eat for dinner.

Wordle: five, my starter was NIFTY
Connections: fail, Green > Yellow > X > X

Current status: riding in a Uber. I’m gonna clog up the Grand Canyon with my presence later today. It’ll reply “oh, joy, another grain of sand”.

Wordle in 5, I apparently went in through the out door, it was a struggle. Two misses in Connections. Paulie, I don’t recall you flaming out very often.

I must have packed better for this trip because I didn’t have that moment of sheer terror when the Uber tears off from my house. That’s when my brain reenacts Jefferson’s first line from Act II of Hamilton. “What’d I miss?”

    • David says:

This morning’s musical accompaniment was Glen Campbell’s “By the time I get to Phoenix”. I haven’t heard that song in a long, long time.

    • Yeah, I usually figure my way through Connections, but today’s caught me out as I tried to use a word in two different groups to which it did not belong.

    • Bob says:

Funny, whenever I leave for a trip I’m always unsettled until I remember what I forgot. Most of the time it’s just something small but it’s always something.

      • David says:

I usually reassure myself that I’m not headed into the desert and can source anything I forget at the other end but that platitude is hitting different this time. 🙂

        • David says:

We’re stuck at the gate because the first officer got snarled in Atlanta traffic. C’mom dude, get your ass into the office.

I did forget sunglasses and will remedy that in Phoenix.

          • Barb says:

Allan forgot his sunglasses when we went to CA – we went to a Walmart & got some in the sporting goods/fishing area for $15. They were really decent sunglasses.

      • Barb says:

Have a great trip David!!! You will have a blast.
Stop at the Pie place on the drive up – Rock Springs Cafe.

        • David says:

NICE!!! I will lock that into my GPS! 🙂 Thank you, Barb!

Uneventful flight to Phoenix, they made up the first officer’s Atlanta traffic delay in the air.

        • David says:

The cherry pie was lovely. Thanks for the tip Bard! The patty melt was quite serviceable as well.

  2. Sally says:

Brrr….I thought the dogs would just want to do their business and come right back in but no. They wanted to go for a walk.

Wordle in 4 starting with PLAYS. One mistake in Connections: Blue, Green, Purple, Yellow.

Work went okay yesterday with me in charge. No mishaps. Let’s hope today goes just as smoothly.

David, I hope you find spirituality and life meaning while in the big ditch.

Paulie, I hope you figure out something tasty for tonight.

    • David says:

Thank you, Sally! It is absolutely going to be a spiritual experience. The juxtapositions of my last trip occurring when I was first dating my wife and now this trip after the end of my marriage is wild. I’ll have time to get some hiking in hit this afternoon and Friday morning before I head south. I’ll stay on the edge of the rim on Friday. 🙂

  3. Due to time constraints, I’ve decided to renew my Georgia State Parks pass online. For most people having it sent via the mail is no concern, but for me…

    Wordle in 4.

A semi-frustrating day trying to get things installed and tested while I’m on site. Nothing I can do anything about, but still. Supposedly a change when in last night to permit traffic- those damn firewall people (Bob!!).

I found a little Brazilian sushi place for dinner last night. It must be a front for the mob, as I was the only one in there the whole time. And don’t ask me to explain Brazilian sushi, because I’ve had it and it still seemed pretty normal.

    On to day two.

    David, have a wonderful trip!!

  5. Barb says:

I’ve been lucky at Aldi recently finding meat & chicken with a 50% off sticker – so last night the chicken I needed to cook or freeze became a version of Olive Garden’s chicken gnocchi soup.
We added bacon, because – say it with me – Everything is better with bacon.
    It was actually pretty good.

Besides that – getting ready for a Parrothead party this Saturday evening – its looking rainy – so that will change the dynamics of not having people outside & on the deck.
I guess the basement will be used more – Let’s hope everyone knows now to NOT fall down the stairs.

  6. Home from Waschsalon and Kroger. Would have stopped at Aldi, but it was in the wrong direction.

As expected WLF didn’t stand up very well to last night freeze. Oh well, after lunch I may suit up and finally clear out the summer vegetable plants that thought they could survive.

  7. Barb says:

Connections – too many could have had 5 choices – and I guessed wrong too many times getting one away.
Blue & green before I was out.

thanks to Steve – I got Wordle in 4.

  8. Jenka says:

Busy day today! Demolition is supposedly happening at my house as we speak!

Barb, to answer your question from yesterday, I don’t want to sleep downstairs unless we have to because the bed is a queen. Kevin takes up a lot of space. It’s a very comfortable bed, just smaller than what we’re used to. Also I’m old and out of shape so I don’t like going up and down stairs.

We went to A Mano for dinner last night. The packers had packed and taken away all the pots and pans so I couldn’t have cooked dinner. I foresee a lot of restaurants in our future.

  9. Sad to pull a ton of tomato plants, but I had to honest that their fruit production days are over, so cleaning up was necessary.

    • Barb says:

all my tomato plants are looking dead after last night.
But – I have a big bag of green ones – plus a lot of red ones – so we are set for tomatoes until Christmas is my guess.

  10. David says:

Oh, and today I learned beef jerky isn’t the plasticky stuff that I last had in the 80s. Who knew? I wanted some protein for the trail tomorrow.
