My walk to the post office yesterday was two-fold. Not only did I mail my letter, I also picked up a bag of trash on the journey. I wish people weren’t such shitheads, treating the planet like a trashcan, but that is not the case. Fortunately there are likeminded East Atlantans who also pick up trash, to be fair more often than I do, otherwise my neighborhood would look disgusting.

I didn’t feel like cooking last night, so instead I brought a frozen pizza and salad over to Betsy’s. Don’t laugh, oh he’ll laugh if you wish, but it was a Red Baron pizza and it was surprisingly tasty. I will cook the cannelloni beans dish for dinner.

For those keeping score at home, through January I have earned $1055 of the $3500 cost of the BRAG ride this August. This amount doesn’t include airfare, but for that I am hoping to cash in Delta SkyMiles.

It’s the beginning of a new month, one which will see me in Florida for most of it. I wasn’t completely successful from banishing myself from grocery stores in January, but I have done well eating food that was in my pantry, refrigerator, and freezer.

Wordle: four, my starter was PATIO
Connections: perfect, Purple > Yellow > Blue > Green

  1. And because I am a dreamer I continue to hope that WordPress will fix Apple emoji. Clearly the latest update, installed yesterday, hasn’t.

  2. Today’s NYT Mini Crossword taught me a new word.

  3. Steve says:

I might have said some choice words as I ran Wordle out to 6 and we don’t even want to speak about Conniptions.

I had to pass on being chief at Anniston. I’m afraid we’ll be working that weekend, either locally or in beautiful Newark! And the boss approved my training request so we’re going to Vegas, baby! At least early June won’t be hellishly hot (but it could). Trying to arrange a little motorcycle trip into Utah afterwards.

The new horse is still settling in… not all together yet, but hopefully soon. Since Mickey is at the trainers, the dynamics were just changed, then we bring Cash home and that really changed things.

    • David says:

My crazy brain just imagined your new horse saying, “Hello, I’m Johnny Cash” in Mr. Ed’s voice. Be glad you don’t have my brain. 😉

  4. Sally says:

A new month just for happily single people. Hallmark can have VD.

Wordle in 4 starting with BUILD. 2 mistakes in Connections: Purple, Green, Blue, Yellow.

Fun night at Scofflaw. Ran thru the cemetery and caught a great view of downtown. Beautiful night. Free beer and pizza. Fun with my peeps.

  5. Bob says:

It was cold and I was afraid of the gates closing and trapping me ITP so I didn’t make it to Scofflaw last night. One of these days I will make the trek. I did manage 40 minutes on the treadmill so at least I did something 🙂

    • Steve says:

Bob, we should always be able to find a way out…

    • I feel ya Bob, just in the opposite direction. 😉

    • Jenka says:

But you want to be ITP when the gates close. If you get stuck outside you have to sleep in the woods and get attacked by a bear.

    • David says:

I have prophylactic nosebleed medicine that I take any time that I need to venture OTP. 😉 I’ll need an IV infusion for today’s road trip below the gnat line to Thomasville, Georgia.

      • Barb says:

        Thomasville – that’s almost Florida!

        • David says:

Indeed. That’s why I’m leaving tonight instead of driving up tomorrow morning. 4 hours in the car is hard on my body, so by driving up tonight I have a day in between before I drive back midday Saturday.

          • Jenka says:

Blerg. What are you doing in Thomasville? Blerg.

          • David says:

I’m one of the sponsors of an accounting professor conference, I’m trying to expand the number of schools using my product that teaches Excel to college students. I almost didn’t go this year simply because of Thomasville. However, there’s a potential plot twist that arose yesterday that definitely makes the trip worthwhile.

  6. Barb says:

Had dinner with Ramaho last night – she was supposed to have surgery on her neck this morning (the problem is a result of a car accident many many months ago).
She has had so many issues with the other person’s insurance (getting her totalled car money for the new car was the 1st issue). The lawyer involved may or may not be inept. It has been a saga. Now the newest bad thing is the insurance wasn’t “approved” for go ahead, but they were going to do it anyway. (lawyer to deal with that part) She gets to the place this morning, and the surgeon has vertigo, and can’t do the surgery. This saga has been horrible. So, when you think things are going bad, think about her & your life doesn’t seem so bad.

  7. Jenka says:

Good morning, everyone. It’s Pajama Day at Paideia. I thought you would all want to know.

My house is finally clean! But we also discovered that they didn’t hook up the dishwasher right and no water is getting in there. So we ran it yesterday and the soap went everywhere and then dried on the dishes. The plumber is coming tomorrow to replace the garbage disposal which came broken so he will fix that, too.

    • Barb says:

bummer on the dishwasher – hopefully its a super simple easy fix.

    • David says:

Ah, Pajama Day makes sense, and explains why when I dropped Rachel off I saw another girl wearing exactly the same pajama pants. I don’t even ask questions any more about Rachel’s attire because she generally stays within the lines of modesty.

      • Jenka says:

I was just glad everyone was wearing flannel pants. Pajama Day for teenagers has the potential to go very, very wrong.

        • David says:

YES, INDEED!!! Rachel had flannel pants today. I didn’t think much about it because that’s just what she wears sometimes. Speaking of things going very, very wrong, the high school put on a production of Chicago, and let’s just say that I’m glad I didn’t attend the show. The costumes were a little too true to the original given the ages of the cast. Rachel shared a couple of pictures with me. Eek.

  8. Jenka says:

Hah, this is hilarious. I make an Italian sausage and cannellini dish quite regularly, I prefer navy beans but cannellini are usually more readily available. Yesterday Paulie mentioned a sausage and cannelloni dish that he makes and I was like, “I wonder if he means pasta or beans?” Turns out he means beans!

Paulie, let me know how it turns out, my dish is similar.

    • Sorry, I have been sloppy with my terminology. Beans, not pasta.

Will do. What is the source for your recipe? Mine is from the Washington Post.

      • Jenka says:

It is from my brain and it evolved from a soup I used to make about 15 years ago with navy beans, sausage, kale, and orzo. Now it is more like a stew or cassoulet.

    • Jenka says:

And the other hilarious part is now I’m all “cannelloni stuffed with Italian sausage sounds delicious and I’m totally going to make that!”

  9. Barb says:

Conniptions day for me – a few words could have been used in multiple categories (IMHO)

Wordle 4 – could have been 3- but I zigged when I should have zagged

    • Same on Wordle Barb. Even worse (for me), my zig was a previous Wordle solution.

I was pleased as punch to get purple first today. There were still many red herrings to avoid, thankfully I sussed them out.

    • David says:

Same here, Barb. Fuck that Conniptions shit. Wordle in 4.

    • Jenka says:

I got Connections with two mistakes: yellow > green > blue > purple.

Wordle in 5 starting with STEAL and I didn’t think I was going to make it.

  10. In from playing in WLF, doing some winter chores and burning some wood in the fire pit,

  11. Debbie says:

Wordle in 4 starting with BLEAK. Conniptions. I got focused on one category and blew my chances.

Chiro and grocery store this morning. I’m trying a recipe to replicate the Chic-fil-a chicken tortilla soup which calls for cannellini beans. Keeping the bean theme going! I hope it’s legit to the original – I love that soup, it’s tasty and filling.

I’ll be back working again on Feb. 12 – now at a small animal clinic, 3 days a week. It’s closer to home and better pay and hours. If it’s not a fit, there’s always Costco or Publix! I like chatting up people and I’d be nosy about their grocery purchases.

The horses are all together. Or at least they aren’t separated by any gates. Cash is keeping his distance from Phinney. Phinney is still being a jerk, but he isn’t going out o of his way to beat him up. I expect it will take several weeks for everyone you calm down and work out their dynamic. Cash seems a little dramatic, and he isn’t taking any chances on getting in harms way. Tanner and Minnie are Switzerland and only care about not missing a meal.

Sorry about the kinks in the remodel Jenka. Hopefully the plumber will get you sorted out easily and you can enjoy it carefree.

    • Barb says:

I’ve never had the Chick-fil-a soup.
I rarely go to Chick-fil-a, I do like it, I just feel it is pricy.
but – everywhere is pricy –
      This week –
      Panera – $50+ for 3 meals.
      Jersey Mike’s – $29 for 2 combo sandwiches

      • I didn’t even know Chick-fil-A had soup!

Yes, everything has gotten expensive, making it harder for me to justify eating out. I keep hearing bars/restaurants imploring customers to visit, otherwise they will close. However, I have to look out for my financial situation over theirs.

    • Jenka says:

Thanks Debbie, but these are pretty minor and easily fixed. It’s all part of renovation!

  12. Steve says:

Problem solved- if you leave the gate open, Phinney just wanders and stars grazing in the front yard!
