I took another crack at baking German rolls (Brötchen) yesterday. With this batch I was much closer to success. The rolls still need to have a more open structure, and bake to a darker shade of brown. I give myself a grade of B, with hopes that I will get even better next time.

Wordle: three, my starter was CRASH

  1. Additionally, I’m really tired of the rain.

It hasn’t rained up here in Iowa much at all – it was a gorgeous (but fairly hot – low 80s) all weekend.

Didn’t do much, but did pick a few stalks of rhubarb & made some cookies- they are interesting, a little tart taste with all the sweetness.

My idiot basement dwelling brother (who is in the hospital – had major heart surgery last week) has this girlfriend that is as much a piece of work as he is, but she’s nice enough. She was here yesterday, got the lawn mowed – I borrowed the neighbor’s mower & did the front yard, she did the back with my brothers crappy mower(s).

    • Rhubarb is a plant I may have stopped trying to grow. I came closest to success last year, growing to nice, small bushes, before they both died almost immediately in the heat.

      • Barb says:

it seems to be a more springtime plant here – so I’d guess too much heat wouldn’t work.
but – once it gets growing, it seems to never stop coming back every year. That patch has been there for 60 years

  3. Also also, I may be getting my eyelid fixed today. Hopefully.

Wordle in 5 (your 3 is impressive)

We made the right call to pull the plug on camping this weekend, and there was so much rain, we didn’t even try to stay home and camp.

Friday, after a very enjoyable lunch with the blogmaster, I finally gave into my desire to go run. 2 whole miles in 23 minutes! My Garmin watch did record my typical running pace of 8 minute miles while I wasn’t walking, so there’s that.

Changed the oil in the scooter on Saturday (while I watched it rain).

Sunday I cooked Mothers Day breakfast of blueberry pancakes and sausage. We watched stage 3 of the Giro. After seeing snippets from NBC Sports on FB, I figured they must be airing it- oh no, on MAX. Fortunately, Debbie has a show there she wanted to watch, so already had it dialed in. The goat running through the back of the peloton must have been… exciting!!

Rode 35 minutes on the trainer last night.

wordle in 3 – I tied Paulie with totally different 2nd words.

TLC still works across the street from Wheelhouse. I think Stacy is a regular at PBS. Sadly, my trip back to the eye doc (as the meds he prescribed did nothing, so he changed them) in a month will be during the work day, so no lunch happy hour.

  7. Bob says:

I am SO tired of this rain, it is really hampering my BRAG training! I may have to ride myself in to shape again this year 🙁
I feel like I never left the house all weekend except for a neighborhood dads party and mothers day lunch.
Friday was a tacos and tequila party with the neighborhood dads. Good times and I left early enough I wasn’t dragged in to any shenanigans.
Saturday was cleaning and prepping for the new bed delivery. So far so good, I like that I can adjust the firmness as needed and raise head/foot for quality napping.
Sunday after mothers day lunch I cleaned bikes and just chilled the rest of the day. So bikes are clean and ready to go, just need the weather to cooperate.

    • Barb says:

it does have a mind of its own on firmness sometimes – it likes to auto adjust.
Allan’s side is softer than my side, so on days he is at the firehouse, I firm his side up so I don’t notice the ridge in the middle of the bed.

We only got the head part to move, (which I do actually use occasionally) but for some reason we didn’t get the foot part.

    • You got out more than I did, Bob. I watched a ton of soccer, thankfully none of the Atlanta United game.

My bike is going to get a once-over this week, and if I am brave, new tires. I have a tendency to introduce flats when I put on tires…

    • Steve says:

“only” 2.5 inches of rain over the weekend. I think most of that time was misting or just light stuff. I let the dogs out at bedtime Saturday, stepped outside to double check- nothing. Went to brush my teeth and the bottom dropped out. Debbie handled the rapid re-entry!

I’m going to need a machete if I can’t get to the back yard to mow soon.

      • Yeah, for as much as it “rained” it didn’t drop a lot of rain. Mind you my main water barrel has filled twice over, but that’s because I’m catching water from the gutters.

  8. Ate a huge vegetarian buffet lunch in anticipation that I will get my eyelid worked on, and won’t want to prepare food for dinner. If there is no action, I may attempt to get a ride in this afternoon.
